This cute little Lovebird was rescued from the jaws of Lucy, my Miniature Pinscher, in the garden on Wednesday. It was a bit bedraggled and bloody after it's 'experience' with Lucy, so we gently cleaned it up and put it in a tiny holding cage with food and water. I wasn't sure it would survive, but in two days it's perked up amazingly well and today I bought it a new cage and all the 'trimmings'...
This is the fourth Lovebird or budgie that Lucy has found in our garden....sadly the others didn't fare so well. :( She is an amazing hunter and can spring quite high in the air so if a bird has the misfortune to fly quite low over the garden, I'm afraid it's fate is probably sealed!
I have no idea where the birds come from but this one seems quite tame. I did enquire with a couple of neighbours. I sometimes wonder if someone is putting them in our garden when they no longer wish to keep them, because they know muggins here will look after them and buy them everything they need!!!!
Brendan wants to call it Rocky as it survived a 'fight' with Lucy.....but what sort of name is that for a sweet little Lovebird!!!!
Certainly looks a sweet bird - I agree, Rocky just doesn't quite fit!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it! Rocky is not my fav name, I keep seeing Sylvester Stallone and I really didn't like him much!
DeleteWhat a beautiful colour he? is! Glad he managed to survive the dog maybe you should call him Lucky as he did have a lucky escape!!
ReplyDeleteI agree Dee, that would be a much more appropriate name!
DeletePerhaps I will call him that and Brendan can call him Rocky. Poor bird won't know whether he's coming or going!
He is a really nice colour, isn't he!
So glad that he? survived the ordeal!
ReplyDeleteAre they allowed to fly around the room and afterwards will they then return into their cage of their own accord....or not?
Definitely not 'Rocky' for a name, as like you I've never been able 'to take to' 'Sylvester Stallone but do love the name 'Lucky' as he was indeed lucky to escape from Lucy from the sound of things.
It would be lovely if he could come out of his cage and probably some time in the future, with the dogs locked safely in another room, this will happen. We had Lovebirds and Cockatiels in the house when we still lived in the UK, as well as my dear African Grey, Cocoa, and Mango our Blue Headed Pionus, and all of them used to come out of their cages a lot but our old Labrador, Heather, wasn't in the least bit interested in them, so it was safe. Whereas little Lucy is a whole different kind of dog! Bless her! I really hate to see birds caged up all the time, but I have to be sensible I guess.
DeleteNo, Rocky is awful, isn't it! And yes, Lucky is nice, I think I'll just call it Lucky and Brendan can call it Rocky and we'll live in hope that the poor thing just answers to anything!!!
