A Little Darling cometh.....

Some of you may remember me mentioning a Dianna Effner Little Darling, that I've had on order for some time from the artist Lana Dobbs.  I ordered this little girlie back in March 2014 and was beginning to think she would never come home to me.  But lo and behold, some 26 (and a half!) months after I placed my order,  she has finally arrived and she is lovely.  Although I have to say that my photos were taken very quickly a couple of days ago in the middle of the evening, and I rushed to get them taken before I lost the light.....I was so keen to record her arrival on 'film'!

She is a tanned number 1 sculpt and I do believe that Lana is the only one of the artists who still tans the Little Darlings....and I'm not even sure if she still takes orders for tanned ones either.  But I had particularly wanted a tanned girl as I thought she would make the perfect little Spanish child, and I think you'll agree that she does.  Her colour is quite dark but my photos do not show this, even at 9pm at night, the light is bright enough that she looks paler than she actually is.  She has the most beautiful brown handpainted eyes, they have so much depth...I love how Lana creates her eyes, making them look so realistic and as if they are made of glass.  The eyelashes look so full and soft that you'd swear you could touch them with your finger and sweep them across....and yet they too are painted onto the vinyl doll.  Amazing!

Like the cobblers children lacking shoes, my poor girl hasn't a thing to wear as I didn't have time to make something....yes you read that right, 26 months waiting and I didn't get to make her anything in advance of her arrival!  Oh well, she arrived wearing knickers and it's so hot here now that I'm sure she's delighted not to have to wear anything :)

Apologies that the photos are a bit repetitive but I wanted to share how she looks in different light.

Here you can see just how real her eyelashes look, you'd swear they were applied rather than painted on!

This last photo, taken inside, shows her colour more like it actually is.

  1. She's adorable!

And wow, 26 months - that's quite the wait period! If it were me, I think at that point I'd have forgotten I'd ever ordered her. ;)

    1. Thank you very much JS, and yes, 26 MONTHS! It was a very long wait and sometimes I didn't think it was worth it but now that she is here, I'm very happy with her! And yes, sometimes I did indeed forget about her. People would talk about their 'incoming dolls' and I'd completely not remember that she was one day coming here!

  2. She's definitely well worth that LONG WAIT...but haven't you cut that sentence short...I thought that it should read...'A little Darling cometh to Kendals?'
Looking forward to see how you decide to dress her before taking photos of her standing alongside your very first little brunette girl... and then with them all together in a group.

    1. Hahah good try Kendal! But I'm glad you like her, despite the loooooong wait!
I have now taken photos with Ellie as you will have seen but apart from two, well now three including this one, all my other LDs are at home and I am here! So it might be a while but I will eventually take photos of them all as a group.

  3. I thought her eyes were made of glass until I read they're hand painted. She was certainly worth the wait, such a beauty in all the different lights.

    1. Thank you very much Dee, I'm glad you think the wait was worth it and hope you'll feel the same when you get your girl from Lana.
Sometimes I need to have the doll in hand to see what will suit her....well that's my excuse ;)
I know you've now seen what her first outfit was, was it anything like what came into your head, that's what I wonder!!

  5. She's gorgeous! I always find it incredible that eyes can be painted to look so real. I'd love to magnify those eyes to see the variance of paint colours and the application of strokes. I wonder how many layers of paint there are? It's funny that she has no clothes after such a long wait, but with the temperatures there at the moment, who needs much to wear?! You get to enjoy her pretty tanned Spanish little body in the meantime :-)

    1. Thanks very much Maxine, I'm glad you think so. She is a little work of art, me thinks.
It is quite hard to see the variance so I can only imagine how hard it would be to paint them like this, and being deep brown makes it harder still...but the depth really is amazing.

She really is a little work of art, isn't she. I would soooo love to be able to paint eyes like this, it must take a lot of practice!

  9. She is very beautiful. I keep trying to think who she looks like....think it might be a famous child portrait?? Of all your lovely LDs, she has the most stunning eyes.

    1. Thanks very much Jenni, I'm glad you think she's beautiful. I often think that about dolls, they remind me of someone....sometimes not favourably! But in this case, well it went through my head that she reminded me a little bit of a very yound Elizabeth Taylor, but it was only fleetingly as Liz was famous for her violet eyes, wasn't she?

  11. Oh my Sharon, I do remember you referring to this Little Darling on order but I lost track of her. She is remarkable and it is hard to believe that her eyes are not glass and her lashes are not applied. Her eyes are gorgeous! Amazing artistry! I really look forward to seeing her dressed and with her Little Darling sisters. Her skin tone is wonderful and will photograph well in your sunny Spain settings. A wonderful surprise after the long wait but so worth it! I look forward to her being named too. :) xxx XXX

    1. Thanks so much Ginger. Yes, I must have referred to it a few times over the months, I really never thought she'd get here so am delighted that she finally arrived :)
She really does photograph well, and each photo gives her a different skin tone! She is a girl of many faces it would seem!

  13. She's amazing! I showed her photo to my husband, as I thought he would not guess her eyes are painted, and he thought at first sight she was a real little girl.

  14. Thanks so much Ursula. I think she looks real but I said the same thing to my husband and he said, no, not at all.....I think he needs new glasses ;)
I love how the LD artists do their eyes but I do particularly like how Lana Dobbs paints, and am very happy to have finally got a doll by her!
