I thought I'd better quickly make my new girlie a dress this morning as, firstly we were going out for lunch and I wanted to take her with me to show my friend who owns the restaurant. She is another dolly lover, although not a 'collector' and enjoys seeing my dolls. And secondly, if I didn't make something now, I knew the poor girl would be waiting for ages.
A couple of days ago I bought a little girls dress at Primark, the Irish clothing chain who are also here in Spain. Their clothes are not always of the best quality, but their children's clothes are often really cute.....and I guess you get what you pay for. The dress I bought, which is made of a nice blue chambray fabric with 'broiderie anglais' was only five euros and I should be able to get a couple more doll dresses out of it, which is great!
I used part of the dress for the 'skirt' part and I made the simple lined bodice with blue and white gingham. I added four little white buttons to the bodice for added interest.
And I took a couple of photos of her with Ellie, who was my first Little Darling. You can get a much clearer idea of her skin tone in these photos:
And finally, because I just couldn't resist, here are some more of the 'new girl'....who still needs a name, something Spanish I think :)
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and a great week ahead :)
Oh! What a dear little poppet she is and she looks perfect in her new dress. I was delighted to see her standing next to Ellie so that I could compare her darker skin tones and please don't let Ellie hear or read this but I have to admit that I like her better! (Never thought that I would say that as Ellie has always been one of my favourite of your Little Darlings.
ReplyDeleteShe certainly has that Spanish 'little girl' look about her that is just so appealing...plus I love her slightly narrower face and less full hair style along her more shy/sorrowful expression.
Thank you very much Kendal, I thought you might have a new 'favourite' amongst my Little Darlings once you saw the two of them together. I admit that I really do like the darker skin tone but because Ellie was my first girl, I think I will always have a soft spot for her :)
DeleteAs for the faceshape, I agree that it does look like the darker girl has a narrower face but think this is an optical illusion because they are the very same sculpt before the new girl was stained this colour by the artist! It's amazing but Ellie's cheeks do indeed look chubbier than the new girls cheeks. Maybe it's the tan, I always feel I look a bit slimmer with a tan! LOL....and that definitely is an optical illusion!

Beautiful dress Sharon for your new girl. Lovely seeing her with Ellie , to see the difference in the skin tone. Both are gorgeous and look sweet together. Hope you friend liked her and you had a lovely meal out.
ReplyDeleteNow she just needs that Spanish name... xxx
Thanks very much Dee, I'm glad you like the dress. Yes, my friend did like her, she had seen the photo beforehand that Lana had sent me, but said she was even lovelier in real life!

She truly is a "Little Darling" and very precious. Definitely worth the very long wait. The shots with Ellie really show the difference between the two girls.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun purchase the dress was. Such a good price for the fabric you will be able to use from it. I love how you paired it with the gingham. As usual a delightful post 🙂
Thank you very much Julie, glad you think so.
DeleteI'm pleased to read that you enjoyed the post too.....I am going back to Primark this week to see what else I can find! ;)
Not that I really need any more fabric but I'm sure you know what it's like.... :D

What an adorable little one, and the dress is perfect for her. Yes, she definitely needs a Spanish name. I'm curious to find out what one you pick.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much KK, I've got a few names in mind but haven't chosen one just yet.

Oh Sharon, she is absolutely adorable! The simple dress only enhances her beauty - she doesn't need anything fancy or frilly! Don't know how long I'll have to wait for my Lana girl, but I know it'll be worth it in the end. Debbie :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Debbie, I'm glad you like her and her new dress. I am not a fancy/frilly dress sort of person as you know, so this is the sort of thing that I like making....I'm glad that it suits her :)a Yes, the wait is long but I'm sure you'll love her when she finally makes it home.

She really is special and was worth the long wait. However, with some artists taking non-refundable deposits, giving a timescale for delivery and then hanging on to the money for up to double that time, as has happened in a couple of cases I know of, I've abandoned the idea of owning one.
ReplyDeleteI would love one but will content myself with just admiring your gorgeous girls. At least that way, one poor girlie is saved from not being badly dressed by me! This outfit is beautiful - when I DID sew, I used to look round the baby and children's clothes in high end charity shops - the amount of fine fabric that peoplle dress tots in and then discard after a couple of wearings is a gift to us! I have a little Rosette girl who is called Secondhand Rosette as I dressed her entirely from pre-usd material as an eco project. It can be great fun and got my now long-gone creative juices flowing.
Oh yes, tell me about it Jenni...it's just incredible really. I paid a non refundable deposit back when I ordered in March 2014 and was told 11 months wait, and that more than doubled....I almost abandoned the idea of owning her too, and losing the deposit but in the end I almost just forgot she was even on order.
DeleteI will be going to Primark again on Wednesday, all being well, so will look for some more dresses, their summer stuff is really cute at the moment and not at all expensive, just perfect for kids AND dolls!!!

That blue is the perfect colour for her!
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see her next to Ellie and to be able to compare the two - and to see what fantastic eyes they both have!
Thanks very much JS.
DeleteYes, both girls do have lovely eyes, in fact I love all the eyes of my girls....and they are all different. I would love to be able to paint eyes like this!

I LOVE HER. She's my new favorite! She's such a gorgeous little doll. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL You've changed your allegience! And you are not alone!
DeleteThanks very much :)

She is so sweet. A Spanish girl I know is called Yolanda, known as Yolly Tricia x
ReplyDeleteYolanda is a nice name, thankyou Tricia, there are a few now on my list, but I've not been thinking about it today as I had my head stuck in a good book....everything else went by the wayside! You know what it's like!
DeleteHope you're still enjoying your holiday :)

Another wonderful addition to your dolly family.
ReplyDeleteHer new dress is lovely with it's scalloped edge and eyelets - perfect proportions for someone so small!
Looking forward to hearing her name.
Thanks very much Rosie, I'm happy that you like her :)
DeleteI love this sort of fabric, it was really fortunate to find the little girls dress, there appeared to only be one of them and for just 5 euros it would have been a sin to leave it in the shop, don't you agree!

I'll have to pay a visit to Primark - never was there before. The skirt you got out of that kiddie dress is so sweet, and it's a perfect combination with the gingham fabric. I believe your Spanish girl would even look good in a potato sack, but this dress suits her so well!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Ursula and yes, it is definitely worth a visit to Primark....especially at the moment as they have some really cute dresses that you could use for your girls, I know how like me, you love to make things from human clothes. And the stuff isn't expensive either, which is an added bonus.

She is absolutely adorable! I love seeing her next to Ellie and you can see a big difference in their skin tones. I also love the dress you made for her, so perfect for the dear one. She is a beautiful girl and I love her eyes! :) xxx XXX
ReplyDeleteThank you very much dear Ginger, I'm so glad that you like her.
DeleteIt's hard to describe her skin tone so it was so much easier to show the two of them together for comparison, she makes Ellie look quite pale and freckly, doesn't she! I hope they will be firm friends very soon.
xxx
I am sure your new girl will be good friends with many of your dolls. I have to comment again on this beauty! She's just shooting up to a top favorite of all LD's I see! And that dress is just adorable...
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Jano, and yes, I'm sure she will be. She is sharing a box (although the lid is open I hasten to add) with Ellie at the moment because I'm a bit worried that this new girl will mark easily if she is left out of the box, were she to slide sideways (my dolls are currently standing on the spare bed and have a tendancy to have the dominoe effect!) so she is lying in her box. I look at her regularly but don't usually keep dolls in boxes!! I will have to get her out and take more photos soon.
DeleteThanks again, glad you like her and her outfit.

Thank you for visiting my blog, I will certainly take a look.
