A 'crafty' weekend!

Last weekend I did a bit more sewing, this time making a dress for my Robert Tonner My Imagination doll who I'd read was a good fit for American Girl sewing patterns.  Well I have a ton of those so decided to make her a dress and I read correctly because the dress is a perfect fit on her.

The pattern has short or long sleeves and a curved yoke at the front.  I guess I should have taken a photo without her jacket but it was a bit chilly ;)  The leggings are made from stretch fine corduroy and are my own pattern.  The jacket is a very cheap 'made in China' jacket that I've had for years, but I soaked it in diluted bleach and it looks much nicer now!

I do like this doll, she's lovely quality and it's great that she can wear so many of the patterns that I have but her eyes are a bit staring, so I might change them at some point.

I also made a wig for my Fairyland Minifee tanned Chloe.  I had ordered some alpaca from a seller on Etsy and had to wait for it to arrive from Estonia.  I made a hard wig cap and then I made the hair into wefts which I then attached to the head cap using PVA glue because it dries flexible and clear.  Using alpaca is a nightmare and it got everywhere!!!!  It's beautifully fine and soft but it got up my nose, in my eyelashes and all over my clothes and the floor!!!

Anyway, the wig came out quite well for a first attempt until I decided she needed a fringe!  Oooops epic fail!  But I'm still happy with it and if I keep it 'messed up' like this, I think it suits her.  I love the colour and think the colour is really nice for her.  Would I make another?  I don't think I would in a hurry, no.  Apart from the alpaca being expensive, it's a very time consuming job and I realise now why sellers charge anything from £50 upwards for a custom made wig!

Tee shirt and jeans by me, canvas shoes by Dale Ray.

Finally, although I didn't make this hat and coat set, I thought I'd share some photos of my little Gotz Happy Kid Emily (2016) wearing it.  I think it's made from real wool and has a faux fur collar and hat and is from the doll company Bonnie & Pearl.  It's great quality and the perfect fit on Emily.  (Leggings and boots made by me)

Thanks for visiting, I hope you all have a lovely week ahead and that you stay safe and warm.  It's been a bit nippy here in southern Spain recently but hopefully the temperature will be on the turn soon :)

Big hugs Sharon xx

  1. Love the outfit you made for your Robert Tonner doll, great colours and really suits her. It's nice when a pattern can be used for more than one doll.
The wig looks like really hair and is a lovely colour that suits her.
I love the red coat and fake fur hat with the striped tights and red boots. Her coat reminds me of a photo of my older sister aged about two, I'll have to hunt it out, it's in black and white though :) xxx

    1. Thanks for all your nice comments on this post Dee :)
I would love to see the photo of your sister if you find it. This kind of coat is still very popular with both boys and girls here in Spain, especially for special occasions like Semana Santa (Easter week) and going out at the weekends.

    1. Thank you very much Ariadne and welcome to my blog, thank you for visiting and taking the time to comment.
The My Imagination doll is really nice and it's great that the AG patterns seem to fit her. I am going to change her eyes at some point, just because I don't like the blank stare she seems to have, but the doll herself is definitely worth having :)

  3. You're very clever to make a wig like this. I remember it always was a nightmare to glue that tiny bit of hair on you need for a dollhouse doll (when I still made them). In that larger scale, it must be much more difficult. So, well done! Love her outfit.
I also like the red coat on Emily. I have a similar one that came with my antique AM 1984. It's a shame it is too large for Sasha...

    1. Thank you very much Ursula. Yes, a complete nightmare to glue, the glue and the hair went everywhere!!! I swear it was still up my nose and in my throat three days later ;)
Does the coat not fit your Zwergnase girl perhaps?

  4. Wow! You did a great job. Your My imagination doll looks really good in her dress. Chloe's jeans and tee-shirt are the bomb. And I love the red boot and the striped leggings you made for your Gotz doll. You are really talented.

  6. Hi Saron,
Love the new dress, it looks great with the leggins and jacket. You're right about the stary eyes, I think changing the is a good idea, or at least moving them to a sideward glance (that sometimes helps). Not a real fan of making wigs myself, but have done a few re-roots over the years. Gasped when I saw the red coat!! I had one just like that when I was about three, red, double breasted with black buttons, but the collar was black too. My mother used to have an old black and white photo of me in it, sitting beside her bed. I wonder if Bonnie and Pearl still have them, I could make a mini me. LOL!!

    All in all, well done!
    Hugs,

    1. Thanks very much Sandi, I'm glad you liked this post.
I went to look and yes, they do still have the red coat at Bonnie & Pearl but it is no longer in the sale :( I was fortunate in that when I got my doll and the clothes, there were loads of things reduced and I got my doll quite cheaply as she was being discontinued. However, I just looked at the dolls and she's there still, but full price. I guess they had a change of heart!
As for the wig, this was as messy as rerooting except the hair was mega fine! I'm not sure which I prefer though, I do find rerooting very relaxing...except for the poor cuticles on my nails!

  8. Oh, dear. Last week I was coveting several outfits on offer from Bonnie & Pearl on the Petalina page. I managed to resist temptation and purchased a Zwerg doll instead as I had originally planned but now after seeing your Gotz doll so gorgeously dressed and reading your review of her coat, I'm back to coveting. Such a dilemma...

    1. Hi Rebecca, thank you for your visit and your comment.
I was really fortunate when I got my B&P Claudia and the outfits, direct from the company when they were on special offer. I did really well, getting the doll, and three outfits I think it was, for just over £100, I real bargain I thought.
Having said that, the Zwergs are soooo tempting, I'm not surprised you got one :) but then I am prejudiced as I love mine. But I have dilemmas like this a lot after seeing photos of dolls. I wish you luck :)
