Happy St. Patrick's Day.....

Now that I am the proud owner of a new Irish passport, I feel it is even more important that I embrace my Irish-ness and with it, take the opportunity to wish you all a very Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

As I child and into my adulthood I was always part of my family's St. Patrick's day celebrations, even on a school night!  All day long my mum would be boiling up crubeens (pig's trotters), tripe and onions and lambs tongues, all 'delicacies' that my dad and his friends loved, and these would be wrapped in foil or put in plastic containers to take out to the local Catholic club in the evening, when a fair few pints of The Black Stuff (Guinness) would be consumed to accompany the Irish dishes!!  I'll never forget how greasy everything would feel afterwards, door handles, tables, glasses...YUCK!!!  And no, despite my new Irish citizenship, I've never acquired the taste for any of the above!

Here is a little Irish Blessing for you!

I don't think I have any dolls clothes in green but here is Marisol wearing shades of turquoise....it is after all, the colour of the Irish Sea when it's not stormy!!!!

Who knows, one year I might even have clothing for my dolls that reflects 'special occasions'.....but it's highly unlikely as I'm not that organised!!!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and that the week ahead is a great one for you!

Big hugs, Sharon x

    1. Don't worry Dee, having tasted them, I'd not eat them again through choice!
I'm glad you love Marisol, hopefully she is going to get a new custom faceup soon!

  2. A very happy, but rather belated, St. Patrick's Day to you too and many thanks for the Irish blessing!

I always love hearing about family traditions and although not a lover myself of that food mentioned above I do know other people who enjoy tripe and onions and lamb's liver, heart and kidneys (I often used to cook the last three for my Yorkshire Terrier as a special treat to add to her dried biscuits.)
These foods, I know, played a big part in our diets during and after WWII when food was scarce so this is when I probably ate them before knowing what they actually were.
(I have to admit though that I still enjoy an OX tongue sandwich with my home-made chicken or vegetable soup.)
Another dear little one of your dollies in her sweet little outfit!

    1. Thank you Kendal! I do like liver and bacon with onions and gravy, in fact I had that to eat just two days ago but the rest of the St Patrick's Day fare, well that was all a no-no for me! Yuck, the jelly on those crubeens was gross!
I've never eaten ox tongue but used to think the lambs tongues looked ghastly with their grey colouring and those spots on the tongue! Horrid!!!

  3. Happy Late St. Patrick's Day Sharon. I have an irish passport (somewhere) too - Irishness handed down as I am a bit of a mixed up non-national-citizen-of-the-world, Mum having been born to an Irish/Spanish couple ad then adopted by a Scots and English couple and my Dad ....well, even ore mixed! Welcome to the world wide community of 'a little bit Irish' people!

    1. Thanks Jen! You really are a bit of a licorice allsort aren't you! ;)
I would love to have one of those genetic thingies done where they find out where you originate but too expensive, even if I knew if I could get one done here in Spain!

  5. I am part Irish through my paternal grandfather, but never met him, and my family never had any Irish traditions. Irish culture is huge here in Cleveland, Ohio, though. There are at least three schools of Irish dance, including one where students compete on a world level. The Catholic schools let students take off who are marching in the St. Patrick's Day parade, and the last time St. Patrick's Day was on a Friday, the bishop of the Cleveland Diocese gave a special dispensation for eating corned beef, etc., even though it was Lent. I imagine he also gave one yesterday. :)

Marisol's outfit is gorgeous, and so trendy. I also see a little bit of green color in her bloomers pattern, so she is good!

    1. That's amazing on there being not one but three schools of Irish dancing in your area!
It's funny how the Irish seem even more Irish when they're not in Ireland! I remember meeting someone in Florida who told me he was Irish, I was surprised as he had a strong American accent but asked whereabouts in Ireland he had been born, only to hear that it was his great, great grandfather or something that had been Irish and he'd never set foot in Ireland himself. He seemed quite surprised when I said "so you're an American then?!" LOL I guess we are what we are and what we want to be :)
Thank you on Marisol's outfit, I'm glad you like it!

  7. Congrats Sharon!! Thank heavens those meals have gone out of style, can't abide tripe or tongue and I doubt if pigs trotters would do much for me either ... UGH! However, I am thankful to the Irish for spuds, I really do love my spuds!!

Had a giggle at the "organised" comment ... I'm still trying. :)
Hope you are having a wonder week.
    Hugs,

    1. No, let me tell you those pig trotters were gross, greasy and slimy and full of fat!!!
      Not nice!
Oh yes, I love potatoes too, probably couldn't live without those!
LOL I'm glad to hear I'm not alone with being disorganised. When I see people putting their dolls in holiday outfits I think "oh yes, maybe I should make something for mine!" but that, sadly, is as far as I get!!!

  9. Happy belated St Patrick's day from me too.
I don't think I've ever had pigs trotters but I clearly remember my Mum cooking, peeling and pressing tongue - it tasted fine if you didn't think too much about it.
I really like the idea of the Irish sea being turquoise - must look for a calm day!

    1. Thank you Rosie! Yuck on the tongue! Though I hear other tongues look better, the lambs tongues looked very grey looking to me!
I was sort of using poetic license with the turquoise of the Irish sea to be honest!!!! So don't look too hard ;)
