Sharing secrets.....

A couple of Gotz girlies, sharing secrets....

I made this new outfit for Joie (on right) a few weeks ago, before we came down to the coast.  It was going to be for Christmas but she insisted she must wear it now!!!  I love this Scandanavian style fabric which was a new childs hoodie that I bought a couple of years ago from C&A (yes, thankfully we still have C&A here in Spain).  I'd saved it for something 'special'...and finally decided the time was right to dismantle it and use it for a dress for Joie!  It probably took me more time to unpick the hoodie than it did to actually make it into a dress!!!  The leggings are made from a new babygro from H&M!!

Bailey is back as a brunette!

Finally I have got around to finishing Bailey's hair 'do'!  You'll recall last week we saw her with plaits and rollers....I was hoping for a particular look....erm, that didn't happen! When I took the plaits out the back was really quite nice, except for the ends which were still straight as I couldn't plait right to the ends.  But the curls at the front were too big and full.  I'd obviously put far too much hair into each roller.

I didn't photograph her like that, the girl had suffered enough, but I decided to pour more boiling water over her head and start with straight hair again.  And that is where we've stayed!  I have cut the front into a straight blunt cut fringe and then I cut the length straight all the way around.   I did wonder if I should trim the fringe a little shorter, but for now I'm going to leave it as it is.

Here she is all ready to go to the Chat n Snap!

Nuria wanders by..."Hey Bailey, have you done something to yourself? You look different!"

"Have you got a new beret?"

"New blouse?"

"It's your hair, isn't it?  You've dyed your hair! It's lovely!"

The humilliation!!!

Poor Bailey, could it get any worse!!!!

Yesterday she got the hot water treatment and a pop sock over her head......it dried very quickly in the sunshine, but it looked very flat.....it was lovely, soft and shiny though...thanks to the addition of a tiny drop of argan oil rubbed in before it was dry:

No peeking Bailey, I'm not done yet!!

So this morning I spent ages plaiting small strands of hair and having separated the part that I wanted as a fringe, I decided to add some curlers in the hope that she'll have some soft curls at the front once it's dry:

She's now back in the sunshine again, so hopefully soon I will be able to see the results of all that plaiting!!!

A feeling of deja vu!

This week I decided I'd take a short break from sewing, having just finished a string of commission outfits, and start rerooting Bailey again.  You'll remember that we've been down this 'root' before (yes, pun intended) and Bailey went from being a brunette with badly falling hair, to a rerooted mixed mid blond, but not liking that and feeling that she had waaaay too much hair, I cut it all off to just stubble and wigged her.  However, I was never quite happy with my wig choices, so decided to reroot her again.

The changing faces of Bailey:

Poor girl!  Really been through it since coming to live here in Spain with me!

The hardest part was removing all the tufts from her previously reroot.....I really had knotted the hair in tightly, I obviously wasn't planning on doing her all over again when I first did it!!!  However, I eventually got all the plugs out, and two hours later and one very saw right hand, she was bald and ready to go.

I'm afraid she wouldn't let me take a photo of her this time round (she's got quite bossy since she's settled in here!) so this photo is from last time!!

She doesn't look too happy back then and she looked even more annoyed this time!

Anyway, to cut a long story short.....she is now finished and waiting for her hair to be washed, cut and styled.  I've told her that if she doesn't behave herself then her hair will remain like this until after Hallowe'en, when she can be dressed as a witch!

This is her "I'm not AMUSED!" face I think!

Although Bailey has a double (sometimes treble) row of plug holes making a parting in her hair, it's not actually centre part, it's slightly over to one side, (as can be seen in the 'baldy' photo above) although unfortunately, not a side part either......sort of an 'in-between' part....so I haven't made her into a full centre part at the back, although I did think about it.  It wouldn't have been straight and would have to have been placed at an angle to the part on top of her head.....I do still want her to have a fringe though and have also been thinking of adding some little curls using the boiling water method that Jackie R told me about......but all that will have to be decided!

I will take more photos tomorrow, hopefully Bailey will look happier by then!

Bailey models again for me....

Today Bailey is modelling for me and she's back wearing her Prince Gregor wig as I really can't get used to her in other styles.

I've made a very similar outfit to this before, twice in fact, although I normally don't like to make 'repeats' of outfits, but the first one was made for ebay, and the second two sets were requested by people who commissioned me, having seen the ebay outfit, so that's why I've not stuck to my normal 'one of a kind' rule.

Anyway, without further ado, here is my little sweetie .... who incidentally fell straight into an empty blackbirds nest after climbing this tree!!!! ;)

A little orange!

I had the urge to make something with a piece of fabric that I bought recently.   I have absolutely nothing in orange for my dolls and it's not a colour that I'm ever asked about.....so I made a very short, simple, summer dress using this orange and white cotton and edged it with orange rick-a-rack.  I intended for it to be this short because I love the Sashas legs!!  I  made her a headband from some ribbon and she made herself a necklace and bracelet with a couple of orange slice beads.  Bailey is happy!!!

Gotz girlies.....

I took some photos of my three slate eyes Gotz girlies to compare them.  I can see now that my newest girl, the blond Destin, has chubbier cheeks than the other two but that they really only show from a three quarter profile view.....from the front her face looks narrower.  Destin also has the most 'preserved' eye paint, although her lip paint is almost gone.  When I see them straight on like this,  I think Destin looks like a slightly younger child than the other two.  However, when viewing them in profile, I think they all look pouty and young looking!  I think Lindt, my brunette girl, is fractionally smaller in height than the other two but it's hard to tell as she is barefoot.  Another difference is that Destin and Lyric have bigger shoulders than Lindt...and definitely bigger than the English girls and boys.

Here's a closeup, with left to right, Destin, Lyric and Lindt...

And individually, closer still.   You can see Destin has quite large cheeks, as does brunette Lindt:

And here you can see that Lyrics cheeks are less pronounced:

Another close up of the three girls together:

And a full length of all three girls:

I'm very happy with these three girls, I now need to decide if I want to reroot Lyric or leave her wigged....decisions, decisions!

My chocolatey girl Lindt!

What's is life without a bit of chocolate?  A bit less fun me thinks, so I thought I'd share my chocolatey goodness with you, Lindt, my 1960s Gotz slate eyed brunette.

Outfit by me, shoes by Ruthsdoll.

Bertie finally gets some new duds!!!

Poor little Bertie, he's been here for months now and it wasn't until today that I finally finished an outfit for him....talk about neglected!  I don't know why it's taken me so long to get motivated into sewing something for him, I just find the babies a bit of a challenge.  I love looking at other peoples photos of them, I even like looking at this little fellows face as he sits on my Sasha shelf, but I had no urge to sew for him.  However he is now the happy owner of a set of new clothes and wanted to show them off to you.  He even has a hat....although it's not really the weather for this type of hat, when he saw the little fishes I'd decorated it with, nothing would deter him from putting it on right away!!

Bertie likes to play with his friend Stewart Little!

And he particularly loves his cousin Lindt!

Socks on the beach.....

Well not quite on the beach, after all I don't want them to get all sandy!  But here we are at the coast and I've just listed more socks on Etsy!  I hope you'll take a look.  I think I'm going to take a detour now and do something else rather than socks although I do have some baby sized ones to list in a few days....but I feel like I have socks coming out of my ears at the moment!!!

https://www.etsy.com/shop/dambuster01?ref=si_shop

I've got some ideas for outfits I'd like to make for my shop, plus I have some commissions that I'd like to start on too, so watch this space, as they say!

I've had quite a busy time this week, what with one thing and another.  I had my first mammogram which I was dreading, having heard horror stories about intense pain and bruising, but I have to say that it wasn't half as bad as I was expecting!!!  In fact the worst part of the day was all the driving!  I decided to drive home from the coast in the morning, leaving hubby and the dogs here, then making and eating lunch with my son Brendan, then driving another 25 minutes to the hospital, then back home again, then back down here to the coast in the evening!!!!  The weather wasn't that nice either, with rain, dense fog/low cloud and high winds so it wasn't exactly a relaxing drive.  The motorway is very high, through the mountains and the wind wanted to push me across lanes if I wasn't careful!! Thankfully though I was safely back here again in the evening.  And two little stowaways came down here with me!!!!  Yes, my two Gotz slate eyed girls from the 1960s, hid away in my bag as they didn't want to be left at home again!

And so that this isn't just a boring post about socks and driving, I thought I'd just add a few photos of them that I took today!  I was playing with the light and trying out something different!!! (please excuse the stray hairs!)
