This got me to thinking about my dolls. I really do love tanned dolls too and when I thought about it, the majority of them fall into that category, whether they be my Sasha/Gregors, BJDs or other vinyl...if their is a choice, I am automatically drawn to the tans! I have to say also, that tan dolls are so much easier to photograph in the higher clarity of light that exists here in southern Spain.
So I thought I'd share some photos of my tanned BJD dolls. These aren't new photos, so I apologise in advance if you've already seen them!!
First to show her pretty tanned face is the appropriately named Summer. She is a 27cm resin 'Caio Bella' BJD (ball jointed doll) from Bambicrony in South Korea. She spent the first part of her life living in Portugal but came to live here in February 2012. Summer has a very sweet but shy personality as you can see from her photos! ;)
Next to take a bow is Lunita. Lunita is a Lati Yellow Miel basic doll who, back in September 2011, was given a light hometan and new custom faceup by Vainilladolly here in Spain. Lunita has actually been here the second longest of all my BJDs, having arrived direct from Latidoll in South Korea in August 2007. She is fully jointed resin and just 14cm tall....she really is the 'baby' of the family and incredibly spoilt!!
Enjoying her chocolate!
Another little tiny tanned girl here is Nora, she is also a Lati Yellow of 14cm, a Pirate Lea, but she is a 'natural' tan, the Lati older more 'orange' tan. I bought her secondhand and she came to me with her 'pirate' faceup, it was very dark and not to my taste at all so I eventually sent her to Raven to work her magic on her. I love what Raven did to her, she's just so sweet and pouty now!
And my third little tanned girl of 14cm, is Oreo, a Lati Yellow tanned Cookie. She is the newer, lighter, more creamy tan and I really do like her colour. She was the last BJD that I brought home and made the total of my Lati Yellows to 4....three tans and one normal skin.
Another little girl that has a lot of attitude is my light tanned human Tillie by Kaye Wiggs. She has a default company faceup and is approx 29cm tall. She's skinny and 'long', and to me she looks very Asian. I think she is also a keeper here! Her name is Torrie:
Reuben is my only tanned boy and he is a Dollzone BB Kay. I did his faceup and it's not great but it's been 'him' for so long now that I've never sent him for a professional one, although it has crossed my mind a few times....I just worry that he'd not be 'Reuben' any more afterwards!!! He is approx 28cm tall and I bought him from Dollzone here in Spain back in June 2008. Another long standing member of the Dambuster dolls!!
And finally my two bigger girls who are MSD size, so approx 45cm tall. Both girls are sculpted by the very talented Australian artist, Kaye Wiggs. The first of these is Layla who is Light Tan.....her name is Louisa but is usually known as Loulou. She has a custom faceup by Forever Virginia, a faceup artist in the US. I really do love these two bigger girls, although I don't tend to do that much with them these days! I like to look at them though!
And finally, Hope, she is Louisa's older sister and her tan is called 'Sun Kissed'. She came to me with a default faceup but I removed it earlier this year and gave her a new one. I was hoping to send her for a new professional faceup but have not had any contact with the faceup artist, so maybe that isn't going to happen right now!
I wouldn't want to collect them, but I am fascinated by these dolls and I adore their clothing! So quirky and modern!! You have done a great job S!!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Ronny, glad to have you visit me and the girls (and Reuben too of course!).
DeleteLove them Sharon! Especially the Kaye Wiggs girls and also Lunita and the other little ones! So expressive and so versatile !
ReplyDeleteI love my Kaye Wigg girl Elfine even though I do not use her much, they are just so great to look at! I am hoping to add one of the smaller bjd's to my family sometime! when I have a quiet Sasha month or two!!!
In the mean time I love seeing your girls to get me a fix!! :)
Hugs Dee xx
Thanks very much Dee, glad you liked to see them! I know what you mean about loving them but not doing much with them, I'm the same with mine at the moment, although I can't imagine being without them....if that makes sense! I too love the KW girls, they have such expressive faces.....I do like Kayes work.

Quite delightful and most interesting.......but I daren't go there as the house is over-run with dolls as it is........so will just continue to visit and admire yours here!
ReplyDeleteLOL, consider this just a sort of 'reference' book Kendal, look but not necessarily to touch!!
DeleteAnd just let us know when you're visiting and I will get the girls to make tea and cakes for us.....to earn their keep!
Hugs Sharon xx
They are beautiful. PLEASE don't send poor Reuben for facial surgery - I tried that with a wooden doll once and she came back a different doll. She never felt as though she was my girl again and has moved on. I still wonder if she was actually swapped.
ReplyDeleteLunita is my favourite, but don't tell the others!
Jenni (who should be making jam in the kitchen we've borrowed.... but people keep putting lovely posts up to distract me... thank goodness)
Thank you Jenni! No, I don't think he'll be going anywhere because you're so right, he could come back and I don't like him anymore because he'll no longer be Reuben. I've had him for years now and he's always been this way, it would seem a shame to send him away.....
DeleteLunita is a little sweetie, isn't she! A lot of people have offered to buy her from me in the past because of her sweet face but I can't imagine not having her here to be honest!
Hugs Sxx
Wonderful post Sharon. How sweet these dolls are and their expressions are very touching. Their outfits are so very nice! I especially love the yellow dress with the striped socks. If I am looking right, the dress even has a pocket! Thank you for a great post! :) xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you Ginger! I love that outfit on her too, she suits bright colours I think. And yes, you're right, I did put pockets on this one because the good thing with the bjds is how easily their hands will go into their pockets because of their flexible wrist joints. So they're not wasted!!

They are such a lovely group!
ReplyDelete(I think Hope couldn't possibly look better than she does now... I love her faceup. :) )
