My little red haired Sasha, Ellory, is enjoying the start of spring with a trip to the coast. We will be down here for a couple of weeks over Easter as my dogs really don't like the marching bands and fireworks that are all part of Easter in towns here in Spain....so we spend the time down here instead. I decided to bring four dolls with me this time, and so Ellory got her turn this time!
I have also brought all my sewing things with me, as usual, and Ellory hopes to get some new clothes! (Well it really is about time, poor thing!)
A few days ago I emailed Jackie Rydstrom, who also lives here in Spain, and asked her about the possibility of her rerooting Ellory's fringe as it is a little bit sparce and I'd like it a bit thicker. Jackie gave me a couple of suggestions for improving the fringe without Ellory having to go 'under the needle' and so yesterday I had a go at it myself and now Ell's fringe is lovely and thick! Basically what Jackie suggested is what I do with my Blythe dolls when I want them to have a fringe, I pulled hair forward from the crown and then I trimmed it in line with her existing fringe. Then, using a damp cloth to completely cover her hair, I used a hot iron to lightly press the hair into place! And voila once the hair was dried, she had a perfectly thickened fringe! I couldn't believe that I never thought to try this before and was actually thinking of having her rerooted, especially as she has such lovely thick bobbed hair anyway!!
I took some photos of her today as she enjoyed the flowers and Spring sunshine, as usual I couldn't pick just a couple!!
Just love what you have done with her fringe Sharon she looks lovely, and how wonderful that she is getting to spend some time with you on the coast. I look forward to seeing what you make for her!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lorraine! I am pleased too with the fringe, it looks so much thicker and I admit it had been starting to bug me a bit!
DeleteI bought three fat quarters yesterday so she will definitely be getting something new. I think she will probably bug me until she does!!

Her hair looks fantastic! Not sure what it was like before, but it looks so full all over (and not too full). I'm also quite taken with the blouse she is wearing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie! Her hair was already lovely and thick at the sides and back but her fringe was thinner and would separate into individual strands which annoyed me a bit, so I'm very happy at how it has turned out. Glad you like her blouse too, that is one of the very few things I've made for her since she's been here, poor girl!

Ellory being from 1979 and as one of the first redheads has gorgeous hair which hangs beautifully and it is such a lovely colour too. I would have put money on it that you would have had her rerooted with a swept over one length fringe and a side part...but I got that one wrong..no wonder I never win the lottery :) She looks fab ..please give her a hug from me and tell her I said hello !!
ReplyDeleteI was sorely tempted Ronny, but it is because she has such beautiful hair that I have stopped myself. I can't bear the thought of removing it, it's just too nice and silky and the colour is gorgeous. If she'd been a little baldy or her hair was horrible and dry, then I'd not have hesitated, so I just thickened the fringe instead. Perhaps I need a blond Tomboy like your 'adopted' out little one who's name escapes me now...was it Ellie? But of course I'll need to win the lottery too!!
DeleteI promise to pass on the hug to her!!!
Hugs Sharon x
She's such a charming little doll... I really love her outfit too! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Randomfish, glad you like her. She is a bit of a Tomboy but agreed to wear the girly blouse with the overalls, because it is blue!

I always feel when I see Ellory that she must be related to Dee's Hattie. Would be great if they could meet up together sometime and be photographed and recorded for all to see. Wonderful too, if Hattie is an 80s doll, for us to notice the differences in height between the smaller 79 dolls before the new mould was used for the 80s dolls.
ReplyDeleteLove her outfit with the dainty feminine blouse teamed with the tougher denim dungarees.
Enjoy yourselves staying in the town over Easter.
I agree, Kendal, they are very alike in photos, but I have no idea what year Hattie is. I will have to ask Dee. I saw a catalogue photo yesterday of the 1979 dolls and there was a girl just like Ellory right in the middle, except with the long hair that she'd have come with. I actually like her better with the bob!! Height-wise, I think that Ellory is fractionally taller than my blond Sasha from 1971, so did they change the height twice?
DeleteThank you on her outfit too! She will have something new to wear soon, hopefully! As I have every intention of sewing something for her this week.
We're actually at the coast for Easter because my dogs hate the fireworks and bands that are in the towns at this time of year....but I will be posting some photos of previous years so that I can share Semana Santa, Spanish style here on my blog!

Oh dear, so sorry that I got where you are staying at the moment the wrong way round.
DeleteI do believe that the moulds got slightly bigger every time they were changed on account of use but some dolls of the same yearage were slightly smaller or bigger due to the way they were pulled out from the moulds.
I too prefer shorter hair on the Sashas and congratulate you on what you have done with her fringe on Jackie's advice as it really suits her.
No probs Kendal, we're back and forth so often that even I get confused with it all sometimes! LOL
DeleteIt's very interesting on the size of the moulds. Ellory seems slightly bigger than my 1971 Blond girl although I've never measured them. I really like the small faced girls too, they look so tiny and vulnerable.
I know what you mean about the hair. I love hair that can be put in pigtails and plaits but I have been sorely tempted to trim the hair of my blond girl purely because the ends of her hair are quite dry, and no matter what I've tried, it remains the same. But when I spoke to Jackie, she advised me against cutting it....and I know she's right!!
I am really pleased with her advice on Ellory's fringe, it really has worked out nicely. I'm glad you like it!

I love your girl Ellory I nearly bought her as a twin to Hattie who would not wear way out outfits like Hattie! I think Hattie is probably an 80's girl, so would be bigger than Ellory ( love the name), if ever you decide to re home her left me know :)
ReplyDeleteDee x
Thanks Dee, glad you like her! I will definitely let you know if I ever decide to rehome her...I have to say though that I really do like her a lot!
