So after some consideration, I sent her head off to Shelly to have her eyes repainted. I was delighted with Shelly's work but still there was something "not quite right" about the doll. I realised it was her hair. Although it was full and thick and non falling, it was also very very artificial looking, it had too much 'shine' and to be quite honest, too much hair for a small girl, so I cut it into a very short bob.
But still I couldn't bond with her. I didn't want to sell her as I loved her new eyes. I kept her like this for a while but all the time wondering if I should reroot her.
Finally today, I took the scissors to her and gave her a haircut....I removed all her hair and rewigged her with the lambswool wig I had made by Mary Madeco-Smith last summer. And then I decided that I'd already done enough damage to her so I added some freckles and finally I gave her some blush! I know the English Sashas don't usually have blush, but I gave it to her all the same.
Now I'm really pleased with her new look. She finally has the character that I wanted and I feel that her look now really matches with her pretty eyes! Eventually I might still reroot her, but for now here she is:
This little Sasha really has gone through a transformation!!!
It looks like Gabrielle has grown up. She has transformed from a young looking girl to a mature young lady. I love her sweater too!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Isabelle. Don't be fooled though, she's still a little girl at heart!
Deletefunnily enough the blush, new hairstyle and the roll neck sweater make her look older - young teen rather than a little girl. She looks good with her new hair and I look forward to seeing what you do when you eventually reroot her.
ReplyDeleteYes, she does in the photos but to be honest, she doesn't really look any older in real life....it could be the outfit making her look a bit more mature too, would you say?
DeleteGlad to see a bigger picture here - she is fabulous - the eyes, the wig and the make-up go together so well - great synergy! And the outfit is perfect on her. I love Mary's wigs - I've just ordered a doll from her - didn't realise she sells wigs too
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Tricia, glad you like her! Yes, Mary showed a doll in a wig last summer and I asked about it and she made the wig for me, I'm not sure that she makes many though! I look forward to seeing your doll when she arrives home!
DeleteAlthough the changes are subtle, it makes a huge difference! The eyes are beautifully redone, and your realistic freckles and blush have made her even prettier, it's much better than the original make-up. Wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shelly does beautiful eyes! I'm glad you like the freckles and blush too!
DeleteShe looks like a totally different Sasha. Love her blush ! I do like the wild hair on Sasha's just gives them such a style all their own.
ReplyDeleteHer last outfit is very trendy, love the over long white cable sweater.
Thanks very much Dee, glad you like her. I like this wig but I'm going to have to wet the scalp to make it fit better. It's still a little bit domed at the crown. The sweater was a gift from my lovely friend in Australia who died last year. She used to do the loveliest knitting.
DeleteShe does look so very different. I like her in both her post-Shelly-visit photos but agree with other people, she looks very grown up in her new style - like a young teen ready to go shopping with her Mum. Your wallet could take a hit if this young lady gets to a town where there are trendy clothes shops...!
ReplyDeleteJenni
She does look grown up, but don't worry, she's still a lovely little girlie at heart! She still likes to play in the garden and with her dolls!
DeleteWow! That is quite the evolution! :D
ReplyDeleteYes, she has gone through some changes has this little one!
DeleteWonderful girl Sharon!! I love her blushing and freckles. Of course, her eyes are fantastic!! So nice to see her transformation :)
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Ginger, I'm glad you like her new look!
DeleteGabrielle (my daughter's first Sasha baby Nightdress was called Gabriella) just gets better....and better....and better!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Kendal. I wouldn't have fiddled so much with an older girl, but this one just seemed very bland when she arrived, compared to the others, so I thought "in for a penny, in for a pound" as the saying goes....and she ended up like this! I'm far happier with this new look!
DeleteYour new Gabrielle is a stunner, Sharon! Really amazing transformation! I'm glad you stuck it out with her & kept on pushing until her true self popped out! If and when you decide to reroot her, will you try to stay close to her look now with mohair? I really love her the way she's now:) & that sweater is beautiful too - cables are always a favourite of mine & it is just the right amount of oversized - suit hereto a T:)
