A funny thing happened.....

A funny thing happened today when I was out shopping.  I wandered into a toy shop called Imaginarium which carries wooden train sets, educational toys, and very cute toy replicas of  kitchen equipment and foodstuffs!

It was in this particular shop that the 'something funny' happened.  A little voice from the top shelf called out to me to take her home!  It is not often that I'm drawn to 'play dolls' that are available from toy shops, but this little girl really appealed to me.  She was on special offer at just 30 euros, which was an added bonus, so I decided to bring her home.  And she was 'made in Spain'...so I'm actually helping the Spanish economy too...can't be bad, eh?!!! :)

This little Asian girl is approx 32cm tall, all vinyl, and from the Nicoleta range of dolls.  She has shiny black hair in two pigtails, very dark almost black inset eyes, and the cutest little button nose and rosebud lips.  What I also like is that, unlike the caucasian girls in this range of dolls, this little one didn't have attached eyelashes, and I think the result is much more natural looking.  A bit of research leads me to believe that she is actually designed by Ruth Treffeisen and probably made by Paola Reina dolls here in Spain.

She has thick rooted hair which is nice and silky, although would probably benefit from a wash to get rid of that slight stickiness that doll hair often comes with.

I don't like her eyebrows all that much as they are a bit simply drawn compared to how nice her lips are painted, so I might fill those in a little with watercolour pencil when I go home.

Her outfit is also very cute.  It is made up of denim shorts over a pair of grey knit tights, a long sleeved tee shirt advertising the doll range and the stores logo "It's Magical" and a very cute pair of 'leather' boots in grey with fur around the tops.  She also has a little bag with the same logo as the tee shirt.  All the pieces are well made.

I decided to call her Jasmine, after the flowers that are all in bloom here at the moment, as you can see in the photo below.

Other outfits are available separately for around 12 euros a set, but I do have lots of patterns that could be adapted to fit her.

And the funny thing is, I have a little Asian baby doll at home who might be the perfect little sister for her!

  1. She is sooo sweet! I love it when the mood strikes and an unexpected purchase arrives! Sometrimes a little guilt can be attached but soon vanishes when you are 'playing' with them!
It's always nice when there is a mix of dolls and their 'gear'!

    1. Thanks very much Dee, she really caught my attention when I went through the door of the shop, so it was meant to be I guess. I must say it is very nice when you can actually pick up a doll and take it home, instead of having to wait all the time for it to arrive!!!!

    1. Thanks so much Nymphaea, I'm glad you like her! She is very cute and what a great price too!! I will probably fill the eyebrows in at some point, I think they let the rest of the face down a little bit, maybe I will even add some nice eyelashes, not the spidery long ones that the other dolls in this range come with though!!!!
I have just been looking on Amazon Spain and they have lots at very good prices, and there are also quite a few on ebay....I don't know where you are located though.....

  8. She is adorable! (And her outfit is so cute!) I believe these dolls are very close in size to the Les Cheries and Hearts for Hearts dolls, so there are some sewing and knitting patterns out there. ;)

    1. Thanks so much Lynn and for the pattern links too! I just bought a pattern and got a free one aswell from the sewing site you linked to, so I am raring to go now!!!
Yes, her outfit is very cute but you know what these girls are like, they're never happy with just one outfit, so I'll have to pull my finger out and get her something else made so that she can have a change of clothes!!! :)
