Life's a beach.....

I finished sewing an outfit today that has a 'nautical' theme to it...well the fabric of the top has anchors on it, does that count as nautical?  I thought I'd take Wren down to the beach to photograph her and was glad I did.  The beach was completely empty and it was really lovely just sitting there listening to the waves.  It was a bit windy so Wren fell over a few times in the sand and her sand in her hair and a bit windblown but I think she enjoyed herself.

Wrens hair ribbons were tied nicely before we got to the beach but she soon had them hanging down!!!

I was a bit worried that she'd ruin her lovely JJ sandals but they're made of sterner stuff and survived her jaunt on the beach!

Wren has such a dreamy look in this photo!

  1. Must have been sheer bliss to have had the beach all to yourselves! Would have loved to have been with you and Wren as I'm the happiest when down by the sea and walking along beaches.
Super nautical outfit. Just perfect for where you are at the moment.

    1. Oh Kendal it was lovely to have the beach all to myself, especially as I was photographing a doll! I still don't feel comfortable taking a doll out and taking photos when there are other people around......I just wish I could do the deed and move on without a backward glance but it just isn't me!!! I do love to be byside the seaside, as the song goes, it is my favourite place, and it was lovely and warm without being hot....and just the sound of the waves lapping. Absolutely perfect!!!
Glad you like the outfit too!

    1. Thanks Anna! Glad you like the outfit!
Yes, the sand here is quite dark and quite gritty....It's not so dark as the sand on the Canary Islands, which is volcanic sand, but it is dark on this particular beach. Further along it is much more golden and finer, whereas this, when you pick up a handfull and sift it through your fingers, looks like very very small flat stones, about a millimetre across, if that makes sense. It's funny how the sand can be so different from sand just a few hundred metres away, isn't it?

  3. Ooh these pictures make me sooo envious! I grew up on the south coast (Lymington and Lilliput) and now living in the Midlands couldn't be further away from the beach. Wren is so sweet in her red, white and blue outfit, with her saggy sock and scruffy hair ribbons (just like most photos of me as a child.) My favourite is that last one of her before the 'footprints in the sand'.

    1. Thanks so much Jude, glad you like the photos of Wren and her outfit.
I have to say that I have lived my whole life no more than about 30 minutes from the coast, I do so love the water.
I love that photo of her too, she looks so untidy and messy, just like a real kid would look after time on the beach...if you could see the back of her head, it is covered in sand where she fell over backwards a couple of times!!!!

    1. Thanks very much Dee, I had to grab the bull by the horns and take the photos whilst the beach was empty. It won't be long before there are people sunbathing on there and I'll feel too self concious to take dolls down there for photos, unless there is someone else with me!!!! I'm such a coward!!!!

    1. Thank you Anne! It was lovely on the beach, although I had too many clothes on to be honest, it was much cooler on my deck which is quite shaded.....I could have got away with short sleeves on the beach, but I had a fleecy hoodie on and sweat pants!!!! LOL
