My Dolly Week....

This week we went to a local castle/fortress which is just about 15 km from us and yet we'd never visited there before.  We did actually try to go there last week but loads of roads were closed due to a cycling event.  So we tried again and this time our satnav took us somewhere entirely different.....and then finally we just took a chance on directions and found the place!!  But I must say it was a bit stressful as the roads we were sent down by the satnav were really scary, very narrow, very steep and some with sheer drops with no barriers.  One paved road was so steep that as I turned into it, still in 1st gear, our tyres just started to spin on the road surface, they just couldn't get a grip on such a steep road!!!  Never again!

Anyway, as I say, we finally found La Fortaleza de Velez Malaga and it had beautiful views and you could see the Mediterranean Sea in the distance, as well as several churches and the town of Velez Malaga from above.  You can read a little bit of history here:  (If you click on the photo it will enlarge)

I took two dolls with me; Claudia by Bonnie & Pearl and my Gotz Happy Kidz Emily from 2015.  I walked up to the top of the tower to take some more photos, there were about 100 narrow winding steps to the top and fortunately no-one else was there because there's no way I could have got past someone coming in the opposite direction whilst I was holding a big bag, a camera, a handbag and two 19 inch dolls!!!!  It was definitely worth climbing those stairs, the views were wonderful.

Claudia, from Bonnie & Pearl,  enjoyed her morning out.....

The gardens outside the castle are very pretty and nicely laid out, the shade from the palms and the olive trees was very welcome as it was quite hot up there....

Claudia and Emily...

Resting at the top of the castle....

Although it's a little hazy, in the distance you can just see the Mediterranean Sea....

Evidence of the Moorish architecture....no, not Brian, the archway behind him! ;)

The red and yellow Spanish flag and the green and white Andalucian flag, flying in the breeze.....

Views north towards the mountains....

Church of San Juan Bautista....

I hope you've enjoyed seeing our local castle and the girls who visited with us.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Hugs Sharon x

  1. Thanks for sharing your lovely photos of Spain Sharon, I did enjoy the fort (though if I'd gone up there, you'd have had a hard time getting me down), of course the Moorish architecture photo was definitely a winner! Hugs to Brian. :)

I am also glad you shared Claudia too as I had never heard of Bonnie & Pearl dolls before, I shall look them up as they appear to be a good height match for the Gotz dolls. It was good to see some sunshine too, I am missing it downunder the grey skies are sooo depressing.
    Hugs,

    1. Thanks very much Sandi, I'm glad you enjoyed the visit. I would have stayed longer at the top but it was so hot and I was wearing jeans and carrying too much stuff that I just felt that I wanted to get back in the shade again after taking my photos.
Yes the B & C dolls are a good height match for Gotz dolls. They come with very staring eyes so I changed Claudia's to glass ones and I prefer her much better now.

  2. It was just like being on holiday ! But without all the effort of having to climb those steps up to the top of the tower! Thank goodness lol :)
Great photo's of the girls and the castle and surrounding countryside and town, I love the style of the churches in Europe.
I can almost feel the soft warmth of the sun with a light breeze as I wander round the castle.... a trip without having to leave the house... perfect ! :)

  3. Emily's t shirt is fun. She certainly wants to be a photographer, like Mummy.
The castle is very impressive. Good thing you weren't misled by your navigation system and found your way in the end.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos! Just a little holiday on a Sunday evening.

    1. Thanks Ursula, I did the embroidery on my sewing/embroidery machine. I really need to use it more as I have loads of patterns that I could use for my dolls clothes.
I'm glad you enjoyed the photos :)

  4. How absolutely beautiful I have been to Mallorca 3 times, but not mainland Spain. I love the Moorish style though. Your dolls are lovely :)

    1. Thank you Nanna, I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. I think that a lot of people dismiss mainland Spain as being lager louts etc, but it really isn't like that at all! There are definitely people like that in some of the towns during the summer months but not everywhere, and they are not the norm! I love the 'real' Spain and hope that you will visit again and I can share a bit more with you :)

    2. Thank you :) It's on my list although it will be a few years as we have a 10 year old doggie ( a Dandie Dinmont ) and we won't go anywhere where we can't take her with us. We are off to the IoW next week :) Jane

  5. Fabulous, goregous scenery! I love how old everything looks. I would love to walk around these villages and see the architecture and history. It's so different from the US!

    1. Thanks very much Farrah and yes, everything is very old here....including me! LOL
I love the Spanish villages and the houses, there is always something to see, and lots of small bars and cafes to stop at along the way for a nice refreshing drink and some tapas :)
