Arrival photo showing default faceup:
I removed the lips and redid them myself but left the faceup as it was because once the lips were lightened, so the shading didn't look quite so bad. I also removed the horrible spidery eyelashes too and gave her some slightly softer ones.
But today I decided that I want her to have a whole new faceup as her default one really doesn't compliment the sculpt. Hopefully she will go to Sweden in the summer to be repainted by a very talented faceup artist, who's work I really admire.
I took some photos of her today in the garden with a lambswool wig that I made for another of my dolls. Hopes regular wig has been stolen by one of my Gregors, so I will have to replace that later when she has her new face, if not before.
As Hope looks today:
Some other wigs I've tried on her and rejected:
Redhead - Monique Gold Geneva (I think) in Carrot Red
Brown - Monique Gold Ginger in Brown with Electric Blue
Blond - I think this one is from Elfdoll and is synthetic or modacrylic:
And finally, this is how I would like her to look with her new faceup. This Hope was done by the same faceup artist and the photo belongs to her, isn't she beautiful!
Hi Sharon! Her original lips looked very strange! Your changes on the lashes and lips definitely are a huge improvement, she has such a pretty and cute face! The Swedish artist is very talented too, the faceup looks very natural and realistic. Hugs! X
ReplyDeleteThank you Nymphaea, and you're right on the faceup artist....that natural look is EXACTLY what I'm after! And hopefully that is just what I will finally get!!!
DeleteOh, she will look even prettier with the lighter, more natural faceup! It's so much fun to see her in the different wigs, too...they change up her look tremendously. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn, I really am hoping so! I do prefer them to look more natural than the default faceup.
DeleteIt's astonishing how dramatic a difference just changing the lips and eyelashes made, even when the rest of her face stayed the same!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of wig do you have planned for her new, softer faceup?
Thank you for your comment jSarie! I'm really not sure on which wig, I have a few in her size, and I really like her in the Monique Gold Jojo, but honestly, wigs are the bane of my life!!!! I wish I could be one of those people who knows well in advance what wig and eyes a certain doll will have, but I never seem to, and on the rare occasions when I do, they tend to change immediately on arrival. I think it'll be the same with her having a new face!!!
DeleteSharon what a cutie hope is, i love how different she looks in all of the wig changes. I am still not sure what a face-up are, are they like repaints????I defo think she looks better after you removed some of her heavy make up! xxxxxx
ReplyDeleteHi Steve, thanks for your comment. Yes, when BJD people refer to a 'faceup' they basically mean a newly done face. A lot of the faceup artists use either pastels or an airbrush, and some artists do beautiful work!
DeleteIf you look on my blog post today, you will see that I've been busy removing and redoing Hope!!!! I hope you'll like her new look!
She does have quite strong colour on her orginial face make up, love seeing her in all the different wigs, I still have not tried changing Elfine's although I have several !
ReplyDeleteThe photo of the person's work at the end is very nice but having seen the post after this one, I think your paintwork/make up ? is just as good
Awww thanks so much Dee, you're too kind in the last sentence!!!
DeleteI tend to find a wig that I like and then unless I get bored with that look, they seem to keep that wig as 'theirs' for ages. I admire those bjd people who can keep changing their dolls looks but I like to find their 'personality' and so with that!!! I think Elfine looks good in her current wig though!
Beautiful work by the Swedish artist - at first glance she reminded me of a 16yr old Twiggy from the 60's.
ReplyDeleteYes, she does really nice faceups Jude, I hope to get something similar for my girl eventually....maybe fractionally lighter though.
