Which colour hair?

Today I finished the majority of a Kidz n Cat makeover that is one of two I've been commissioned to customise.

I have given her blue glass eyes because she came with cheaper blue acrylic but I thought the colour worked well for her.  Her original hair was medium blond but the wig was of a poor quality, very 'synthetic' so I'm also replacing her wig.  Here is a photograph of a default Kidz n Cats Stine, this isn't actually my photo as I forgot to take a before photo...doh!!

Default Kidz n Cats Stine

Here is the newly customised girl but she is just a head at this point!  I have been trying wigs on her to see which hair colour suits her.  These wigs are not the styles I have in mind, just the colours....I feel that she should stick with lighter colours, such as different shades of blond, but I also like her in the red .... I sent her photos to her 'mum' who has given me her opinion but wants me to make the final choice!!!

The photos aren't great as I took them quickly outside and it was a bit breezy so the hair is everywhere, but I wanted to get true photos of the colours of her face and the hair.

I'd love to hear what everyone thinks about the wig colours....the styles aren't important as these are my wigs and are old.  Once I've made a choice on the colour, then I'll order a new wig for this little girlie to wear to go home in.

And so on to number 2.....

  1. I really like the red best, Sharon, somehow it suits her cheeky expression, but I like the choppy style of the first wig

  5. I can't get over how much better she looks..I like the red as well. Do you mind sharing what paint you use for the lips? This one looks so natural and lovely as did your BJD that you just did over. I have been wanting to touch up my Karito Kids doll lips and don't even know where to start. Thanks!

    1. Thank you Farrah, I'm glad you like her new look.
The lips are done with chalk pastels, I'm unable to paint, I'm just too messy with it and never can achieve the look I want, so I shave the pastels and use them with paint brushes, but all done dry. I build up the colour by sealing between layers, then seal it all again at the end when I'm happy with the depth of colour. Oh and I use watercolour pencils, again dry, for making the lines on the lips.
To get the same look you'd have to remove the existing lips and sealant or at least spray sealant over the top, or your pastels wouldn't have anything to adhere to. Hope that helps :)

  6. She's cute in all of them, but the red is my favourite - it seems to bring out the colours in her face.

  7. She looks wonderful. I relly dislike the Barbie pink lips some of the K'n'Cs come with. It puts me off them as they look artificial. My first ones were much better than when they were turning them out by the tens of thousands for the MA market. More recently, they are somewhere in between. Your little lady looks so much better. They really do look fab with a Sharon face up.

A favourite wig colour? Hm.... usually I'd go for the red, but I thnk I like her in the darker blond best. Her fair skin would look great in a paler, more golden red though. Or, with this red, she might ook good with a scatter of freckles.................. Sorry if I'm muddying the waters

    1. I know exactly what you mean and why is that? Even the boys have the bright pink lips! It's like they've been at their mum's lipstick or something.
Thank you, I'm glad you like her! Ah you're going with the darker blond, trust you to throw a cat amongst the pigeons! LOL
I did think about adding freckles but then thought better of it....I'd already cleaned her face off once and started over, I didn't want to risk it again! ;)

  8. What a transformation! Great job Sharon.
I'm going for the darker blonde wig colour this time as it's a perfect colour for her new eyes and skin shades.

  14. Red absolutely red. It brings out her face better than the other colours. The darkest blone would be my second choice though.
    Big hugs, Lene
