December Already!

I've been incredibly lax recently with my blog and thought I'd get a post in quickly before it's the end of another year!  I last wrote that it was Autumn already....and here we are, it's winter!  Thankfully though, the winters here in southern Spain are short and mild, we've had some rain, which we really, really needed, but apart from that it's been sunshine during the day, temperatures of around 19C - 21C, and cooler nights.  Perfect winter weather for me!

So what's been happening in my world since I last posted on here?  Well my husband Brian was really sick about 5 weeks ago and I was extremely worried as he's rarely unwell, but he was bad, really bad, collapsing a couple of times, which was very scary and this was just before he was due to go to the UK to visit with his family.  He wanted to leave going to the doctor until he returned from his trip but I was concerned that he was sicker than he was letting on...so I made an appointment and it turns out I was right, the doctor took his blood and his sugar levels were sky high....he was immediately diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and she injected him with insulin straight away in the surgery.  Now, 5 weeks later he's doing so much better.  Obviously he had to cancel his trip, which was a shame for him but at least if he's going to be sick then he is close to home.  But thank goodness he's doing well, he's testing his blood and injecting himself every day and although his legs aren't great, they're at least working to hold him upright!!!

Brian also bought himself a mobility scooter which he's enjoying!! He tells me he's named it Thunderbolt 2!!!  It means that we can get out together, he can ride his scooter and I can walk along next to him with Lucy, our Miniature Pinscher, which is great!

On the dolly front, I have been enjoying my new Dandelion by Bimong and also I recently received my Xiao Yu head from Black Cherry dolls, a Russian artist.  The head sculpt is beautiful and has a gorgeous faceup by Blisslacosta, who is also Russian.  Four months ago I ordered her an Elf body from Dollstown and hopefully that will arrive soon.  In the meantime she is using my Volks SDMidi body, the colour match is really good (the head is Oriental Copper and the body is called Sunlight).  But my Volks girl is looking forward to getting her body back I'm sure!!

I love the way this faceup artist paints the lower eyelashes on dolls, they looks so incredibly realistic.

I have also received some gorgeous gifts from two of my lovely dolly friends.  One of my friends in the US said that she wanted to send me a gift as she enjoyed reading my blog.  I don't like the idea that people think I 'deserve' anything for the fact that they enjoy my photos, I just am happy that people do enjoy them....but this lovely lady asked me what I would like.  I finally suggested that maybe she would like to send me a fat quarter of fabric which I would use to make an outfit for one of my girls and would think of her when I looked at the dress.....and then lo and behold not one fat quarter but THREE fat halves (I think that's what they're called) arrived from her, such pretty fabrics, thank you so much my dear....you know who you are!!!

Using two of the fabrics, I made this dress for my Dandelion, I hope you like it D, and that you think I'm making good use of your very pretty gifts!

Another present I received was a complete surprise from my friend J who also lives in the US.  She sent me a box and inside were two BJDs (ball jointed dolls), both BIDs (Yosd size) from Iplehouse, an extra BID head, another manikin doll (you'll remember seeing two others that she sent me earlier in the year), some outfits, a wig and a pattern!

Here is one of the new Iplehouse dolls, she is a Elin and I enhanced her face a bit as she was a little pale, I gave her some new eyelashes, new eyes and new wig.  She then went through the dolls clothes box and found herself something to wear!

I haven't taken photos of the other doll and the spare head, but will get to that soon.

Thank you both, D and J, for my lovely gifts, I'm just so incredibly lucky to have the dolly friends that I have.

I'm off to the UK on Saturday for nine hours....yes you read that right, just nine hours!! I'm going over to meet my mum and brother and bring them back to Spain with me on Sunday morning and they are spending Christmas and New Year with us.  I will then go back with them to the UK on the 3rd January and spend a few days there meeting up (hopefully) with my friend Sue and my son :)

Well hopefully I will get to post maybe one more time before Christmas.  Thank you so much in advance for visiting and have a great week ahead!!

Big hugs Sharon xxx

  1. I love your new dolls, especially Elin. She is the only Iplehouse doll I have. I wanted to get an Erzulie but I just haven't done that yet.

Dandelion's dress is lovely. I like how you have matched the patterns. Elin's dress is very cute.

I am glad that your husband is doing better. I am sure that will ease your mind.

"Nine hours in the UK," that sounds like a book title (chuckle). I am sure that you will have so much fun connecting with your family and then shuttling them to Spain. I can't wait to read about your holiday adventures. Safe travels.

    1. Thank you so much Dorothy, it's lovely to see you back again, I hope you're well now.
Elin is a lovely sculpt isn't she! I used to have her many years ago in a light tan and have always liked this sculpt.
I'm glad you like the dress I made for Dandelion, the fabrics are so pretty, aren't they...I'm very lucky ;)
Yes it really has eased my mind that he's so much better, long may it continue!
I must be mad, but it's only a couple of hours on the plane so if it means that my mum feels less stressed about travelling then I'm happy to do it :)

  2. Hi Sharon!
Not real good news about Brian, but I am pleased you made him see the doctor . . . men can be very neglectful of their health at times. At least now things are under control.

I love all these dolls Sharon, I have Elin myself, but seeing her in this wig makes me think mine needs an update. I agree with you about the eyelashes and they are both dressed beautifully . . . I particularly love the fabric your friend sent you, the two pieces you have combined look wonderful together. :)

Looking forward to seeing the other dolls down the track.
    Big hugs,
    X

    1. Thanks Sandi, I'm glad I made him go too, he's probably had this for a while and didn't know, so it has made things more difficult. Maybe if he'd gone sooner he might have been able to have just tablets but no, Brian does nothing by halves so here we are with injections. Fortunately he is doing them himself because at first he seemed like he was going to rely on me to do things for him but I soon got him straight on that one! He needs to be able to do it for himself as I'll not always be there and thankfully he's 'embraced' it now ;)
Thank you also on Elin, and yes, I want to see your Elin too :) such a cute sculpt.
Isn't that lovely fabric, I really do like those colours.
Big hugs to you too :)

  3. Hi there! Sorry that your husband hasn't been feeling well, but luckily you know the cause now. My grandad also suffered from diabetes and he lived a pretty healthy and normal life. During his last years he started getting insuline injections, and that made him very hungry. Hope your husband starts feeling better soon.

Your new doll looks lovely and your photos turned up beautiful. I really like the dress you made for your Dandelion, that's one of my favourite colours.

Hope you have a wonderful time with your family. Take care.

    1. Thank you so much :) I'm glad to hear that your grandad was able to live a pretty normal life with his diabetes, I think for Brian it's just a matter of getting used to what he can and cannot eat, he is very disciplined with his diet anyway, much better than me, so hopefully he'll do fine :)
Thank you on the dress and the dolls, I'm glad you like them...it's one of my favourites too, it always seems such a pretty and happy colour for some reason!

  4. Sorry to hear about Brian being unwell and collapsing like that. Very scary! Good that you took him for a doctor. Diabetes something I know well, having it for 22 years. My legs can be on and off from time to time. Good to hear that he is doing well and I hope it stays well balanced. The Thunderbolt 2 (great name) looks great! Now you can enjoy walks together, all of you!

19 - 21 degrees sounds just about right and at the moment it would be great to have some Spanish winter over here. It is cold, snowy and windy. I look like a Michelin man dressed in all my winter clothes! LOL!

Your new Dandelion by Bimong looks adorable! I like the face and her outfit! And so much fabric you got from your friend in the US! I probably would have fainted, I do love fabrics and look forward to the day I can start to sew again, if just a tiny pot holder. Iplehouse Elin is adorable and what a gift then! You sure are lucky! <3 Look forward to seeing more of these new dolls.

Enjoy the new week and hugs! Have a safe trip to UK and back!

    1. Thanks very much Niina, it was indeed very scary. Oh so you have it too? His legs were really bad and he's still feeling that they're like jelly sometimes but hopefully it'll get better and hope yours are more on than off too. :)
Today it has been really really nice, about 20 and so sunny but this afternoon the winds picked up and it got a bit blowy but it's great for getting the washing dry!!
Thanks so much on Dandelion, I really love her face sculpt, and yes, I was so delighted with the fabric, I love fabric almost as much as I love dolls!!!
Hopefully it won't be long until you are able to sew again....maybe in the spring?
Enjoy your weekend and thanks on the trip to the UK :)

  5. I'm so glad that Brian's on the mend and now getting about on his scooter. Men are always such a worry, as you say they are usually quite fit and never tell you they don't feel so good until they are really not well ! Unless it's a cold of course then it's flu and their dying! lol

I'm loving all these new dolls arriving at yours! You always give them such great personalities!.

Hope your nine hour trip to uk and back went well and your mum and brother were ready to return when you arrived.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas , hugs xx

    1. Thanks so much Dee, it is a big relief that he's doing so much better, as you can imagine. Ah yes the dreaded man flu, such a terrible disease, thank goodness us women only get a slight case of the sniffles and can carry on!!!
I'm glad you like the newbies, I'm really happy with them.
The trip is actually tomorrow evening so hopefully they will be waiting there for me when I arrive as we decided it made more sense to stay at a hotel at Southend airport rather than go back and forth to my mums house for just a few hours!
      Big hugs xxx

  7. I'm sorry to hear the news about your husband but glad to hear that he is doing much better. My husband is the same, thinks he's fine and ends up going to the doctor if I nag him too much. I always say, better to be safe than sorry!

You are right about the face up on your girl. Those bottom eyelashes are done really well. I love the whole face up too but those lashes, very delicate and fine. I always find lashes so hard to draw finely, even in my drawings.

Have a safe trip to the UK. Sounds like Christmas will be quite busy for you!

Merry Christmas if I don't get a chance to say this before then. I'm working right up and including Christmas Eve sadly.

  9. I'm so glad your husband is doing better. A scooter is very nice, and a great name for it too! :) It's good you got him to the doctor, I agree on everything that others have already said about men and them being sick and not going to the doctor...

I love the Xiao Yu head, it's so pretty and the face up is amazing. It's great to have good friends among the hobby and people can be very generous and kind as well. I love the new dress on your Dandelion, fabrics are beautiful!

What a beautiful gift from your friend, you're lucky and it seems Elin has made herself home already! She's such a cutie like Iplehouse tinies are. :)

Hugs and have a nice time with your closest ones. <3 ^-^ I'm looking forward to Christmas too as I'm going to visit my parents with my siblings. It's always the best to have time together. Hugs.
