Introducing Irrealdoll Nora

As promised I would like to introduce you to my newest little ball jointed doll (BJD).  She is sculpted by the Spanish artist Laura of Irrealdoll and is called Nora.  Nora is made of resin and fully jointed.  She was available in two colours, Peanut and Toffee, I chose Toffee because I already have a Toffee coloured Enyo and I wanted Nora to be his big sister!  Nora is 27cm tall and quite skinny, so much so that she can actually fit into some Blythe clothes, although she would actually be classed as YOSD size, meaning Young Super Dolfie.  The term YOSD actually belongs to Volks of Japan but is used throughout the BJD world to describe dolls in this size range.  At some point, when I get some time, I would like to do a comparison post showing the difference between dolls in this size range.

I ordered Nora back in July and paid for her on layaway, Laura offers a great layaway and I finished paying for her in October.  The doll then arrived just before Christmas.  Laura makes several different sizes of BJDs, I currently have three different sizes, and they are all of excellent quality and the posing, particularly of her later dolls, is second to none.

I recently made a wig for Nora, who I'm now calling Noa, by making a wig cap using PVA glue and then attaching curls of Merino wool, however I wasn't happy with the wool that I received from a seller on Etsy and so instead, I decided to order a wig from a seller in France.  I will show you Noa in both wigs for your opinion.  I like her in both wigs but feel that she looks a bit older in the homemade wig, plus the wig itself did not come out very well.

Homemade wig using Merino wool and PVA glue wig cap:

Now wearing Tessie wig by Monique Doll Company:

Please excuse the photos, I'm struggling with the changes to Pic Monkey, the photo editing site that I subscribe to.

Noa came with light brown eyebrows so I have darkened them slightly as well as adding a little more colour to her lower lashes, but apart from that, her faceup is by the artist.  I love her very faint freckles.  Unfortunately you can't see them very well in my photos.

Clothes: Top photos, jeans by me (made for Planetdoll Mini Riz), tee shirt for Blythe

Bottom photos, same tee shirt, denim overalls by TTYA and sports shoes were keyrings!

I hope you've enjoyed meeting Nora/Noa!

Thank you for visiting

Big hugs, Sharon in Spain xxx

  1. Noa seems like a shy, but very cute girl :)! Congratulations on getting her! But I must definitely say, that I like her much more in your home made wig - those curls are irrestistable!

  2. Well hello Noa! OMG I love those little teeth Sharon, they add such personality to this doll and to be honest although I like both versions, I like her best in the wig you made. I haven't bought a BJD for such a long time, so it's nice to see one like Noa, you may have given me a push back in that direction.

Hope you and your family are all keeping well, big hugs,
    X

    1. Aren't the teeth cute Sandie! I love dolls with teeth but think I only have one other with them! That's another vote for the curls then! Thank you :)
I do hope that you are given a push towards you BJDs again as I would love to see you posting about them.

  4. How wonderful that Noa has arrived. I love the "new doll" spell. I think both wigs are fine depending on the look you want. The lighter wig does make her look older. What cute sneakers.

    1. Thank you Dorothy. Yes I love that new doll smell too, although I prefer the smell of vinyl, it always reminds me of Christmases as a child!
I'm glad you like both wigs, I think she might change 'personas' now and again and swap wigs about!
Thanks on the sneakers, I have them in mint green too, they were tiny key rings and I instantly thought of my dolls :)

  6. She's lovely Sharon. She looks so different in each wig but I love the last one , it makes her look like a teenager especially in those jeans.
Thanks for the information on the designer , it would be nice to see all the dolls you have of hers together, especially if they are different sizes.

    1. Thanks Dee, I'm glad you think so. I'm still undecided on the wigs, I might make her a Tibetan lambswool one too and see which I like best.
I will definitely get around to doing a comparison post soon, my mum and brother are going home soon and it will give me more time.

  7. Hi Sharon! I have finally found some time to sit and read the whole post!

Noa looks adorable. I do prefer her with the second wig, but the first one looks quite good too! I wouldn't have guessed it was home made if you didn't mention so.
Your photos look fantastic, I don't see any issue with them. If you need a new photo editor, I used to use beFunky until I moved to Gimp. It's quite limited, but it does the job if you just need to adjust the contrast and crop the pic. I also make some designs for the blog using Canva, but it's more a design tool than a photo editor.

Hope you have a great February.

    1. Hi MC, I'm glad you were able to visit my blog, it's always nice to hear from you.
I think the second wig is getting more votes...I do like how it makes her look younger, but happy that you thought that first wig wasn't home made!
I'm going to have a look into the two photo editing sites you mention because yes, all I really need is simple editing, I don't do anything fancy with the photos, I just want them to be clear and bright. Thanks for the information.

  8. Noa is a cutie, congratulations on getting her home. I do love the homemade wig on her, it suits her skin color so well!
I have used PicMonkey and even beFunky but had some issues with these places. Today I use iPiccy online. Canva works nice too.
    Enjoy February!

    1. Thanks very much Niina. I like the colour of that wig too, I'm hoping to find some lambswool and make something similar but better...wish me luck! I will also look out for iPiccy too.

  9. Hmmmm..... I can see others disagree, but I like her better in the home made wig. So maybe swapping from time to time is the best plan.
Good to hear from you again!

    1. I think you're right Ursula, using both wigs (and maybe even the third one that I have in mind) from time to time, might be the answer.
Good to hear from you too, big hug xxx

  10. Thank you very much Linda, I'm glad you think so. I agree, I feel that the first wig makes her look older, more grown up, and that's not the look I want for her. Yes, Spain does have some really brilliant artists, I met several of them in Barcelona a few years back, and more at the Blythe Con Europe here in Malaga, their work is amazing.
It's very sad that Monique are going out of business, and like you I will miss their wigs :(
    Big hugs to you too.

  12. Hi Sharon, I have liked Irrealdolls since I first saw them! Your Nora is super sweet. I really like that selfmade wig, I think it looks great with the curls. :) I've been struggling to make some wigs myself and I decided to make some acrylic yarn ones instead of organic fiber to have more practice. I like both wigs, honestly Monique Gold wigs are so nice, I have quite many of those for mine too. Outfits are always super cute! <3

    1. Hi Xaya, thank you very much for taking the time to comment on my blog, I'm glad that you like Nora. I agree the Irrealdolls are great, they're so well made and the posing is really good. I love Monique Gold wigs and am very sad that the company are going out of business. I don't think many wigs compare to the softness of theirs.
