Searching for hair....and not just any old hair!

The last couple of weeks I've been thinking about poor Lyrics hair which, as you will remember, is breaking badly at the front.  Well it's breaking all over to be honest, but it's not quite so bad at the back.  This is the colour of her hair in daylight, it's what I would call a 'dirty' blond, or maybe it's 'ash' blond?  If anyone can help me with the name of this colour, I'd be really grateful.

Her hair actually doesn't look so bad in these photos but it's very thin in real life and there are several rows of empty plugs going backwards from the forehead.  Jackie R suggested taking some from the back to reroot at the front, but there's just not enough at the back despite how thick her plaits look.

I bought some blond hair but when I got it home I realised that it is just not the right shade of blond.  I then bought a hair dye in a darker blond, tried that, it made not one iota of difference!! Well except to make the hair harder to comb through!  I wonder if I should have used a fabric dye seeing as the hair is synthetic!

A very pale blond....I think this is too light for her:

This is a darker shade of blond but it's very 'yellowy':

Here are both blonds mixed together: I don't think this photo is a good representation of the colour though as her own hair looks almost 'green' ...

I have searched for other shades of blond  on the internet and not found any that appear similar to her existing hair colour.  I am not planning on partially rerooting, I will probably have to do her whole head, so it's not so much getting a match but a shade that suits her skin colour.

I really don't want to waste any more money on blond hair if it's not going to work.  I even took her to a wig and hair extension shop in Malaga, only to find that the store had closed down...doh!

Therefore I have been thinking, shall I go for another colour entirely?  I was thinking about auburn.  I don't want to change her to brunette as I already have my brunette Lindt.  She would be entirely different and I'd not have to worry about the shade of blond.  But do I really want to change Lyric that drastically?  I really don't know.  :(

I think in all honesty that I'd prefer her to remain blond.  Keeping her own hair isn't really an option as it is so badly damaged, fragile and brittle and I feel that before long she will have an even bigger 'comb over' than she has already!!!!

I would welcome any suggestions.

  1. I can't offer any advice on hair colours Sharon, but I do think these photos of Lyric are particularly sensitive and the lighting is just perfect. She is just so sweet and you've captured that brilliantly. Good luck and maybe Jackie R could offer some input, but imho I do think she needs to remain a blonde.

    1. Awww thanks Jude, glad you enjoyed Lyric's photos...she is a sweetie, it's a shame she is a bit bald!!
I will ask Jackie again about hair but Jackie had previously suggested using some hair from the back to reroot the front, but apart from the fact that the hair at the back is very brittle too, I don't think Jackie realised just how far back the baldness has now gone!
I agree, she needs to remain a blond, the more I look at her so the more I think this to be the case!

  2. Her hair looks to be a silver blonde if that makes sense. I agree she should stay a blonde maybe you need to look at more white blonde than yellow blonde. I am sure Lyric would love to have some new lovely hair now it's got so fargile.
Love the photo's of her and she looks so nice in her outfit. Hope you find the right hair soon.

    1. Yes, it is almost a silvery blond but it's also a bit like a dirty gold too!!!! It really depends on the light of course.
I will look around for a white blond and see if I can come up with anything. Thanks Dee!

  3. Lovely photos, bur poor Lyric! Did you try silverblonde or perhaps platinum, as Dee suggested?
    Perhaps this matches better indeed.

    1. I will have to look at those two shades Anne. I've been looking at various blonds but it's so hard to tell from the computer what the shade will really be like in the 'flesh' so to speak! I'm glad you like the photos though, thank you!

  4. Is there another shop you can try (maybe near your other home)? She looks so perfect as a blonde, and the particular shade she is now suits her perfectly. It is a natural youthful shade (not sure I'm wording this right--her hair color is what I see on youngish children). I think it gives her an innocent air (which I love). All that to say may opinion is to keep looking for a blonde colour that you like.

    1. I am not aware of any other shops that were like the one that closed down. Such a pity as it isn't that long since we went there and hubby joked that I might like a wig.....I wonder if he was trying to tell me something...??? !!
But I will keep looking and maybe I'll get lucky, you just never know!
I think I know what you mean on the colour, it's a colour that you don't naturally see on older people, by then it has come out of a bottle! :)

  5. Personally I like her as a blonde, it suits her so well! I do think the mix of the two colours looks acceptable, but of course it doesn't resemble the original shade. I can understand your dilemma, hopefully you will find the right colour! Maybe on EBay?

    1. All the votes so far are to keep her as a blond, so that will definitely be what happens!!! You're right, they don't look anything like the original colour and that bothers me enough not to attempt using them. I will look again on ebay, I've bought some other shades from there in the past!

  6. Personally I'd just continue to love her just as she is for the time being and try to disguise this fault as best you can with the 'swept over look' and angle of the camera (something which you excel in anyway) when photographing as she is so sweet and pretty as she is (and re-rooting or wigging always changes their look and personality!)

(I have a Monique Kimberly real hair bobbed wig in pale blonde that I think might be more the colour but not sure if they use this hair in a longer length wig as you need a certain length to re-root..)

    1. LOL Kendal I knew you would vote to 'leave well alone' because you know that I am a fiddler and find it hard to do just that! I won't attempt anything though until I'm completely sure of the colour being right for her, I can guarantee that....I learned the hard way before, that to rush and get the wrong colour, well it just doesn't work for me!
I'm glad you like her photos though.
In the meantime, once we go home I'll try some wigs on her to see what shades suit her and take it from there!

  7. What if you try dying the hair to match her original color

    1. Unfortunately I did try and it didn't seem to change the colour even a tiny bit. I'm thinking that I really should have used dye for synthetics rather than human hair dye as it just didn't take.....I will have a look in the hardware shop and see if I can find any fabric dye that might do the trick on this hair and if it goes wrong well I've nothing to lose except that hair as I'll not have done any rerooting on the doll!

  8. Dear Sharon, I too love your sweet Lyric and share your thoughts with my Hope's hair. Though I ultimately decided to reroot her in a blend a blonde colors, I was not certain for quite a while. Now, I am glad I kept her blonde and gave her the hair she was meant to have. I think changing her hair color would have changed her and I wanted to keep her, as much as I could, the same Hope :)

I really like the blend of blondes but perhaps more blending of Lyric's lighter blonde shades. Her outfit is very special too, what a lucky girl :)
