Book Crossing and More Snow!

I'm afraid that this is another non dolly post today but this morning on my walking, I spotted something that I've not noticed in the past and thought it was such a great idea that I had to share.

It's called a Book Crossing!  And there are four points along the beaches of Torre del Mar and another in Caleta de Velez.  And what is a Book Crossing?  Well if you've not heard of it before, which I hadn't, it's basically a book swap....there are little perspex fronted 'houses' on poles, at different places along the seafront and you can put books inside for others to borrow, or borrow one for yourself, all free of charge!  It was all explained on the side of the boxes in both Spanish and English....

And it says that you can register on line at www.bookcrossing-spain.com and you can follow your books wherever they may go!  What a great idea, I think I'll be registering soon too!

On another note, we had more snow in the mountains!  They look so pretty with their white 'topping'.....I wonder if it's thick enough to ski?  Nah, I doubt it, but nice to look at from a distance :)

Also, I had a funny experience yesterday morning when walking.  In the distance I spotted a guy sitting on the kerb and was a little bit concerned because it was quite early and the area where I was walking was completely deserted.  As I got slightly closer, keeping my eyes on him all the time, I was a bit worried that he wasn't moving, and hoped that I wasn't going to be coming face to face with some poor homeless person who'd perhaps met his maker overnight in the cold.......however as I got closer, I had to laugh at my over active imagination, as this (almost life-size) poor guy greeted me....with silence!!!!

I have no idea where he came from, but he seemed happy enough to continue sitting there in the campo, so I left him to his own devices!!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Big hugs, Sharon x

  1. Lol, too funny about the "lone man sitting by the road". The mountains there look so majestic and gorgeous with their snowy peaks and all of that green below looks wonderful. I long for palm trees!
I've seen a few of these books swaps before, especially in the Adirondacks where we take our yearly summer trip and I think they're so much fun. You never know what you'll find! :)

    1. I had to laugh about it afterwards but I was honestly concerned about him sitting there for a while!!!
Yes I think that's definitely the word I'd use for those mountains, they are magestic, they're so rugged...I would love to go up there but doubt I will, as much as I like a nice walk LOL!
Aren't they a great idea, I'd never seen them before, but must remember to put some books in my backpack next time I walk that route!

  2. How funny! I've heard of garden gnome liberation activities, but this little man is not a gnome.
I've seen book swaps in Germany too, often in no more used phone booths. You don't need a registration, you just take the book you like, and/or put one of yours in. A clever idea!

    1. No, not a garden gnome but I thought he had a bit of a gnome-ish face there for a moment!!
I think the book swap is such a good idea, and like that it's on the beach too...I suspect there are a lot of users in the warmer weather :)

  3. I had heard of the book crossing/swapping before, but not quite like this. It's a great idea and I imagine it would rely quite a bit on people's honesty. Not sure it would work well here though, we had a terrible experience with the hire bikes . . . people were leaving them everywhere, on top of buildings, in the river and in places you would never think of. Unfortunately there's always an element that likes to cruel it for the majority of the population.

I can understand your concern about the man sitting by the roadside, but couldn't help laughing at your Santa, what a relief it must have been. :)
    Big hugs,

    1. Oh that is such a shame on the bikes, they have them here too, but not heard anything bad about them....but I'm sure as you say, there is always one bad apple. :(
I did laugh afterwards about the Santa, I really was concerned because I do walk in some quiet out of the way places sometimes!!! But then I do have my BIG guard dog Lucy with me LOL!!!

  4. The little book house is a great idea. I love that you can track any book you deposit and see how far they travel or how many people read them.
    Snowy mountains look lovely.

That Santa looks very strange !x

    1. Yes isn't it a great idea Dee, I knew you'd like that one!
The snow is going now, it's just like a dusting of icing sugar, but it was pretty whilst it lasted.
Isn't he the strangest looking Santa!!!

  5. Poor little guy. It feels like the reindeer left him and took everything with them. But, as long as the guy is happy, then he can just sit there and enjoy his time! :D
A very neat idea with books like this. There was something similar it the bigger cities over here in Sweden - read a book and when finished, leave it there and then so that the next one can take the book, read it and leave it where she/he is. The books could travel a bit.
    Hugs!

    1. LOL I never thought of that...maybe the reindeer are hanging around in the bushes hiding from him?!
I think it's a great idea, I'm guessing it might be going in a lot of countries, I'm obviously out of touch these days, what with my Kobo ereader! I tend not to buy proper books as they're quite expensive in English here. But I certainly do like the idea of being able to see where a book travels to!
