Hope by Kaye Wiggs...

Today I thought I'd make a dress for Hope, my limited edition MSD sized girl from Kaye Wiggs.  It occurred to me that Hope had been here for some time but I'd not sewn anything for her in ages....I checked and was surprised to find that she's actually been in my collection for almost 6 and a half years, having arrived here in July 2012!

If you don't know the history of Hope by the Australian artist Kaye Wiggs, then let me tell you a little bit about her.  Hope was sculpted in September 2011 in order to raise money for "3 Angels Nepal".  "3 Angels Nepal"  is a charity who help rescue young girls who were sold into prostitution and slavery, by setting up manned booths at the border to stop the rickshaws etc before they could take the girls out of Nepal.  They also rescue young boys who are sold for body parts.  The sale of Hope raised approximately $90,000 for the charity and some of the money was also used to buy land for growing vegetables etc for the orphanage where they housed the rescued girls.  The charity was also able to purchase a water truck and water pumping facilities so that they can now supply water to surrounding villages.  This brings them an income so they can continue their rescue work as well as help meet the expenses of the orphanage.

So Hope, in her new dress, got some time in front of the camera.  I hope you like this small selection of the photos.  The weather was a bright and sunny 23C but was a bit blowy later in the day....and once the sun had started to dip in the sky, so it became quite chilly.  But the photos didn't come out too badly, Hope never fell over or out of the tree and the sunshine through the leaves of the tree did make some nice dappled shadows on her :)

I'm sorry the photos are a bit 'samey' but hope you enjoyed seeing Hope again.  Tomorrow I hope to start on a new outfit for her sister, Layla, my other doll sculpted by Kaye.

Doll: Hope in Sunkissed resin sculpted by Kaye Wiggs
Faceup: Hope's faceup is by me.
Outfit: sewn by me.
Wig: Monique Gold restyled by me.

Thank you for visiting, have a great week!

Big hugs Sharon in Spain xxx

I love the photos, the brown from the tree goes really well with her complexion.

    1. Thank you very much, and yes it was a great cause. A lot of people ask if Hope will be released again but I think Kaye said she'd only release her the one time in this colour resin, so it does make her quite special.

  2. I have always loved this sculpt Sharon, but I know I will never own one, Kaye's dolls are extremely expensive, so I only have one mini. I do wish Kaye would do something with the hands though.

Your photos are stunning and the tree was a wonderful way of showing just how lovely Hope is.
    Big hugs,
    X

    1. Thank you Sandi, she is a lovely sculpt isn't she. I got her new so although she was expensive, she wasn't the mega bucks that they seem to go for on the secondhand market, thank goodness. I don't think she'd have come here if she was!!!
I totally agree on the hands, they are so 'cartoon-y' aren't they? I don't like the feet either, I always thought of Fred Flintstone when I saw them at first but fortunately they can be covered, but the hands are a different story. When I look at the hands on other BJDs and compare them, well they certainly leave a lot to be desired.

  3. What a beautiful girl and a wonderful reason for her to exist. I did not know any of her story and I am so happy that this doll raised so much for the girls and boys of Nepal. It is shocking just what can be happening around the world to young children.
Her new dress is lovely on her and the dappled sun in the trees making those photos extra nice.
I look forward to seeing her sister Layla as I do love the Kaye Wiggs dolls :) xx

    1. Thank you Dee, I think she's lovely too. I am glad you found the story interesting to learn, I didn't realise that I've never posted about it before. It really is a good cause and I think Kaye has done other things for them in the past too :) She's a really lovely lady.
I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. I was going to post Layla the following day but real life got in the way, so hopefully she'll get her new outfit and her camera time soon!

  4. Dear Sharon, thanks for sharing this information about Hope. I did not know this. I know people who have dolls by Kaye Wiggs. I wonder if they know.
Is the charity still in existence? Is Hope still being sold?
She is a pretty girl and she looks cute in her outfit.

    1. Thank you Dorothy, you're very welcome!
I think that it was publicised a lot on places like the Resin Cafe at the time, I remember reading about it back then....and yes, I do believe they are still in existence and that Kaye has done other things for them since the release of Hope.
But no, Hope is no longer being sold. As far as I can remember, Kaye did one release of her in this 'sunkissed' skin tone and that was it. I think she also had a 'normal' skin tone one made for a friend of hers who was sick, but I don't think there have been any more. I don't know if she will be released in the smaller size that Kaye is doing at the moment through Jpop.

  5. Hope is a gorgeous doll. I've been curious about this dollmaker for some time now. I like that her style is different from other companies. And I am surrounded by talented seamstresses. It makes me want to sew. You did a great job, on the photos and on that dress she is wearing.

    1. Thank you very much Alasse. Yes Kaye does have a style very much her own, apparently she sculpts the children that she sees around her. I think a lot of her sculpts are based on the indigenous people in Australia. She is a very good artist :)
I'm glad you like the photos and the outfit. I hope you'll get sewing too :)

  7. I even didn't know you have Hope. You should pamper her more often, and show her to us :)

Hope is a special doll, but with your face up she is unique!

    1. I am a terrible dolly mum in that you never knew I had her! I don't know why she doesn't get a lot of attention though, several of my dolls don't but I love them all the same. I will try harder!!! :D

The doll hersefl is wonderful. I love her face. I didn't noticed the hand problem until I've read your comments. ;) I was that charmed by her.

    1. Thank you Kamelia, it is isn't it! I thought it was lovely when Kaye did this for the charity, not many people would donate all that money to such a cause.
She is a pretty girl and I promise that I will try to do more with her....!!! I'm glad you like her dress too :) Yes those hands are not my favourite but I tend to forget about them most of the time.
