A Few Little Crafty Tasks....

Hello and welcome back to my lockdown world!!  Things remain the same here except that the lockdown is now being extended until the end of the month....I suspect it will be extended again after that, but I'm fine with it, as long as it keeps us all safe.

I have spent so much time on the internet and chatting on social media, but I have managed to read a few books on my Kobo and now I've actually done a few dolly things too.

Firstly I finished an outfit for one of my Kaye Wiggs girls that I'd actually cut out back in January.  I put it away when my son was coming to visit and had every intention of actually sewing it when he left on the 7th February.  Well that never happened but finally I started and finished about a week or so ago.  Here it is being modeled by Layla....

The outfit consists of a knit fabric hoodie with separating zip, a cap sleeved striped tee shirt and a skater skirt with attached leggings.

Another job that I've been meaning to do for ages is some partial re-rooting to one of my Sashas.  This girl is called Destin and she has been with me for almost 6 years, she is a Gotz Sasha Slate Eyes made in Germany in the mid 1960s.  She has nice thick hair at the back, although the ends are a little dry, but at the front on top it was a little thin.  I just happen to have here the perfect match in hair for her.  It comes from a modern Gotz doll that I used to have.  I cut off her hair and kept the hair before wigging her.  So the hair has been waiting to be used for this particular Sasha for maybe two years!!!  So I did that a few days ago and the hair really is the perfect match for her existing hair.  I didn't do too much, as I said above, her hair was thick at the back and I didn't want to overdo it, but I filled in some thin hair plugs and added just a few more.  Here she is before:

And here, showing you her new look:

Beautiful spring outfit is by Sarah Williams AKA Vintage Sasha
Orangutan is from IKEA
Socks by me and
Beautiful leather shoes by the late great Jean Jensen.

Finally,  I took some photos of Bailey, my 1971 wider faced brunette (rewigged) as she'd not been in front of the camera for ages.  I used my friend's camera to try it out....I didn't take many photos but thought these show her as she actually is....

Well that's all for now, so I will sign off and hope that you all remain safe and well.

Big hugs

Sharon in Spain xx

  1. Hi Sharon, it seems you have got used to the lockdown, I just wish the people in the UK would but I blame the media as they are forever asking when can we come out! and we've only been in it a couple of weeks!
I love your Kaye wiggs dolls outfit, so trendy and up to date.
Dustin is a beauty, lovely level eyes which is a big plus on these dolls and her hair now looks just perfect like her and her little monkey is so cute.
Bailey as always been a favourite of mine and she looks just as sweet as always.
One thing about have your movements restricted as you do tend to finally start to get things done lol

    1. Hi Dee, yes we're used to it now, it's a bit of a chore but I would rather be safe than sorry. I think it's going to be extended to the 11th May now.
I'm glad you like the outfit, thank you! You're right on Destin she does have nice level eyes, it's what attracted me to her in the first place when I saw her on Ebay. I like how her face is slightly concave too, although that has been hard to capture in photos.
I'm glad you like Bailey, she is one of my favourites too, but don't tell the others!!

  2. Oh Sharon I absolutely adore that outfit on Layla, it's so beautiful and I love the little snail print. It's a pity my Layla is the smaller version, otherwise I would have begged you to make a similar one for her. It also works perfectly with those brown boots, she looks very becoming. :)

Your Sashas look quite pretty too, but I must admit they just don't do it for me, I think it's the eyes . . . have you ever done a re-paint of these dolls? I often wonder what they would look like with a different paint job and whether they would appeal to me more then.

Good to see you back posting again, big hugs,
    X

    1. Thank you so much Sandi, I'm glad you like the outfit. Unfortunately this snail print would be out of scale for the little ones, I think this is why it's taken me a while to use it as I've had the fabric for some time. I used it first for a dress for a 20 inch Zwergnase and it was the perfect scale.
A lot of people don't like the Sashas for that very reason, they say they remind them of the children in the book "The Midwich Cuckoos"!!! I can see it but I still love their faces. No, I've never thought of repainting them but have seen some lovely eye repaints. Shelly of Sasha Dolls UK has done some lovely repaints on their eyes but generally she only retouches their lips, so they look the same.
Big hugs to you too and stay safe xxx

  3. Layla looks absolutely adorable! I love those colors on her.
You have truly worked your magic on Destin. If I had not seen the before, I would not have known.
Bailey looks pensive and sweet. What a cute dress.

  4. Hi Sharon,
In France the lockdown has been extended as well. We have to stay safe, haven't we? I don't mind it at all.
I like the outfit you made for your KW doll. You are an excellent seamstress. The re-rooting of your two Sasha dolls makes such a difference!
Take good care of yourself, stay safe and have fun with your dolls whenever you can!

    1. I agree, we have to stay safe, that has got to be the main thing, especially when we see that places like China and South Korea are now having more cases reported :( It's just too risky for me.
I'm glad you like the outfit, thank you!

Thank you very much, I'm happy you like the outfit and the other two girls.
I agree that they do have gentle faces, don't they? I love that about them.

  6. We do not have any lockdown over here, which feels a bit strange. I keep myself locked down and just do the most important things. The latest news is that 70 people got infected at a party! That is so bad and wrong!

I have used my time to listen to audiobooks, my dolls, series and a support group for those with a broken humerus. Safe and very giving.

Your outfits look great! Love the hoodie on your Kaye Wigs! So cute! And your Destin looks amazing with her new look!

    Stay safe! Hugs!

    1. I don't blame you for doing your own lockdown Niina, it does seem odd that your country is not doing it nationally though. 70 people, oh wow that is definitely very wrong, I'm really sorry to read this.
I'm glad to read that you're keeping busy and staying safe. Long may that continue.
Thank you for liking the outfit and the reroot.

  9. You did a great job on the reroot, and on the outfit. Much better than the lame dress i made for Tammy World!. I do love the little smocked dress best though. I used to put my kids in smocking when they were little. Ken hated it. He said it made them look like farmers! I tried to tell him that that isn't what people here think of when they see smocking,(or even in England these days!),and that if you told a farmer over here that smocking was farmer clothing, he'd kick your butt!

    1. Thanks so much Tam. I laughed over the smocked outfit, yes can you imagine the farmers response to that, but I do know what Ken means, it's a similar sort of style to what those old farmers used to wear in the past, though perhaps a little less girlie.....maybe!! ;)

  10. Thank you so much Linda, I'm glad you like the outfit. The reroot came out very well considering I didn't even take the head off it to do it, I was too lazy...and thought as it's just a small amount I'd not bother!!!
Big hugs to you too, stay safe xxx

  11. Well, pretty much as you predicted in this post, lockdown has been extended until May 10th (or 9th, I'm not sure). I'm glad you've found some time to read and work on other hobbies. I miss reading for pleasure so much!
I love the outfit you made for Layla, the snail print is very cute! And the zipper works! It always impresses me how can you guys sew such tiny things.

Destin caught my eye over Bailey, maybe because she's wearing a more colourful outfit. You did a great job with the reroot. I've never tried to do it myself, but it's definitely something I want to try.

Hope you're doing OK. Big hugs.

    1. Hi MC, yes but now we seem to have these very confusing (for me) slots for exercise, I've still not got my head around it so I'm going to stay at home for now. I am just not comfortable yet with going out.
I'm glad you like the outfit for Layla, I enjoyed sewing it.
Yes it could be the outfit, nice and colourful for spring.
I enjoy doing reroots but I have to be in the mood as they are time consuming and they also kill your fingers and the cuticles in particular!
Big hugs and take care of yourself xxx

    1. Thank you very much JoAnn. No, this hoodie isn't my own pattern, the pattern is one by Grace Faerie. Sometimes I adapt them a bit though, but I think in this case I just made it ever so fractionally bigger.
Glad you like the hair on the Gotz girl.
