Gotz new hair!!!

I would like to show you the results of some 'dolly recycling'!  In August 2013 I adopted my first Gotz Slate Eyes Sasha, a sweet little blond who came with a 'come over' because the seller said her hair had been cut at the front by a budding young hairdresser!  Unfortunately though, her hair was worse than that, it was actually all snapping off at the roots so in the end, when her hair was completely gone on top, I decided she should lose the rest of her thin, dry, brittle hair, and be wigged.  However I could never quite find a wig that suited her.  Here is how she looked when she came here, before her hair came off.

Time moved on and another Gotz girl came to live here, this time it was a more modern Gotz Happy Kidz Emily from 2015.  In contrast with the girl above, she had beautiful blond locks and plenty of them.  But for some strange reason I decided I'd like Emily to have a fringe so I cut her hair into one......but it was an awful cut and I was disappointed in my hairdressing skills,

so much so that in the end I cut off all her hair and wigged her.

I decided to keep her hair though, I thought it might come in handy, I'm sure you crafters out there will know what I mean by that!!!  And lo and behold at the weekend I got the idea that this hair might well come in handy to reroot Lyric!!!!

The hair, having been cut from the head of another doll, was a lot shorter than I'd usually use for a reroot but I was determined to make it work.  I started working on her on Easter Sunday and finished her reroot last night.  I worked with the existing holes and then added extra ones around the crown and the hairline at the front.

I'm really happy with her, she looks just how I'd hoped!  I love how the hair, being shorter, hangs in great layers, like as if it's been professionally cut that way!

I haven't used any hot water on it, I actually like the way it's lying now, all I've done is just trim a few stray hairs at the back.  My friend said she looks like a little 'surfer girl' and I know just what she means!

I love how the sides 'flick' back.....

And how the back hangs down in nice layers.....

And how, when the wind blows it about, like it has done today.....

......it falls nicely back into shape again without the use of a comb.....

Well I hope you've enjoyed seeing my doll hair recycling job!

Thank you for visiting, I hope you all have a great weekend ahead and that the weather is good for you :)

Big hugs, Sharon x

  1. What a successful transformation with her new hair style - well done. It looks very natural especially when the wind blows it about(!), much better than her original hair and wide spacing of fringe holes (a failing of that era of Gotz Sasha dolls).

    1. Thank you Anna, and you're right, it is a great wig for a windy day as it falls just right afterwards. Not like my own hair! LOL
And yes, the original hair was quite brittle and instead of the blond it should have been it was almost a grey blond, but then again she is old so I suppose her hair hadn't done too badly!

    1. Thanks very much Dee, I'm very pleased with it, her hair is now so soft and silky.
No the outfit is one I bought on Etsy last year but no-one had worn it. I bought it for another doll and didn't realise until recently that it would fit the Sashas too!

    1. Thanks very much Ronny, and yes, she must be his long lost twin!!! I will have to make her a swimsuit and get her a surfboard because we've had really high tides recently, she would fit right in on the beach!

  5. So those of us who NEVER throw anything out, as it might come useful one day, are right in the end!
You did an amazing job. Ronny is right, she reminds me a little of Ross. These dungarees suit her so well - but now she needs a surf board!
Are there any tutorials on re rooting? I'd like to give it a try some day, but I remember from re rooting Barbie dolls many years ago that it was fiddly and tedious, and Sasha's head is so much larger...

    1. Yes, it really is proof that nothing should ever be thrown away! LOL
Thanks very much Ursula, I'm glad you like it. I will have to look out for a surfboard or maybe make one.....if I can find something to make it with!
I don't know about tutorials on rerooting a Sasha but there certainly are some on rerooting Blythe, which I know is a bit different because you're working on a scalp rather than a head, but some of the principals are the same. If you have a look on You Tube I'm sure you'll come up with loads of videos. The good thing with Sasha is the holes are already there and you can always add more if you need them, whereas with Blythe you have to make your own and the pattern that you want to root the hair in.

  8. What a clever little lady you are Sharon! I love how you have done the re-root and yes, coming from downunder she certainly looks like a surfer girl to me too, especially with those lips . . . she almost looks like she's wearing zinc cream on them. :) Her outfit is gorgeous, initially I thought it was another one of yours then I read the comments. At first glance it reminded me of the Cat in the Hat for some daft reason, probably the colours and stripes, then I saw the MOUSE! DUH!

BTW I like your Emily much better as a brunette, so all is well that ends well I say, she probably was never meant to be a blonde. Fate always plays a hand. :)
    Happy weekend to you!
    Hugs,
    X

    1. Aww thanks Xanadu! I'm glad you like the reroot, I'm happy with how she came out. I think she needs a swimsuit and surfboard then! Yes, the outfit is the famous mouse!
I agree Emily looks better in the brunette wig, but I did in fact end up getting another Emily so I have them both now!

  11. Have always loved Lyric but just adore her here with that added extra hair and in that outfit! Well done!
Didn't like the sound of those narrow, twisting, sheer drop roads but loved the resulting photos.

No, those roads were awful, I think my blood pressure shot up a whole lot that day!!

    1. I am with you there Nanna, I do like shorter hair but probably because I tend to find longer hair gets messier quicker. I do like the versatility of the long straight hair though.
