One of my favourite shops....the haberdashers!

Today I went to one of my favourite shops down here on the coast.  It is the local haberdashers and is called Mar del Plata, or Sea of Silver, and is located in Torre del Mar, (Calle San Martín, 7 - 8, Torre del Mar, 29740, Velez-Malaga, Malaga).  It really is an Aladdins Cave of gorgeous things for anyone interested in sewing and needlework crafts.  They specialise in quilting fabrics and have a wonderful selection, they even offer patchwork quilt making classes which one day I will attend.....but one thing is sure, I know that if I go there for something, you can guarantee I will come out with several things, particularly quarters of fabric.  You can actually buy as little as a 10cm length from the bolts, but I generally buy a quarter metre, I find it more useful than a fat quarter to be honest.  So today was no exception, I bought some Christmas and other fabric, as well as ribbons and Christmas themed novelty buttons....and was given one packet as a gift....I guess they want to keep me visiting, after all I tend to help the Spanish economy every time I do! ;)

But that is not what I wanted to tell you about, what I really wanted to share was their window display!  As soon as I saw it from a distance when walking to the shop, so my steps increased to an 'almost trot' leaving my dear hubby straggling behind....well I guess he wasn't in any hurry to see what I could see!  And here it is:

(The photos aren't great as they're taken on my iphone with the window reflections, but I've tried to enhance them to help show this lovely display!)

Apparently these are made by one of their customers and form just a small part of her whole collection.....sound familiar!!!  And she makes them all herself.  I think she must use kits because there is a kit called Tilda Seaside Girl shown in the last photo above.  I think the doll may be called Tilda!   I recognise a lot of the fabric in the outfits though, as I'm very familiar with the fabric they sell ;)

Well I do so hope you've enjoyed seeing the photos as much as I enjoyed their window display!

    1. Isn't is just! I read that these kits come with fabric so I am thinking perhaps the maker of these dolls doesn't always use the fabric that comes with them and buys from the shop instead. I love how she's dressed them :)

    1. Oh Dee, you would love the fabric and this shop in general. It's not a very big shop but I'm sure they have everything needed for sewing and the fabric is lovely...it's not cheap because it's all imported but it's really nice all the same...and honestly, worth it for the thrill of holding another pretty fat quarter or half metre!!! :)
Yes, I'm the same with a lot of things like that too, I recently bought a gorgeous book of scrapbooking pages....I doubt I'll ever use it but it was just so pretty I couldn't leave it behind! ;)
We have such addictive hoarding personalities, don't we!!!!!

    1. Thanks for your comment Ginger, aren't they lovely! I wouldn't mind making one, but I really really don't want to go off down another route in collecting! ;) xxx

  4. There is a whole range of pattern/idea books by Tilda. They are presented as being a Scandinavian company and produce their own fabrics, card-making items etc. I have been tempted, but have only used their lovely papers and stamps to make cards so far - too worried about producind a dolly-ogre to make one and, anyway, do INEED another reason to have more dolls?
Love the photos - what a great shop! Thanks for showing us!

    1. Thanks for the info Jenni, I did wonder if they might be Scandanavian or something because of their whole style. I read that they're called Tilda Angels or Homemade Angels, something like that. The kit in the shop was 30 something euros, but would I complete it or would it be just another thing waiting to be started on? I will see in the New Year perhaps!!!! (As if I haven't got enough sewing to be getting on with!)

  6. As the saying goes ' A wonderful sight for sore eyes!'
    Very, very clever marketing!

PS to SS. May I remind you that NOT so long ago YOU had more, or almost as many, Gotz dolls as I had. Remember Spencer (1960s sharp nosed boy) and a No-nosed lad (or two?) Little Shelly, Tantum, Lonely, Lucas, Connor and two Ollies...... just for starters.

    1. Guilty as charged! I did have lots I admit...but fickle me really dislike first edition Gotz dolls!! I do like the toddlers though...and now I am starting to like the babies...I bet you never though you would hear me say that!!

    2. No, not in a million years! In fact I can hardly believe what I am seeing and reading here!
(WThough wondering if the cheaper price of the babies might have something to do with it?)

    3. Aren't they Kendal! Really sweet, although Brian said he thought they were quite 'scary' and 'weird' looking actually!!!! I suppose it is better than what he says about my own dolls, which apparently all look 'constipated'!!!!!

Ronny!!!! A baby!!!!!! My goodness, are you sure you're well? I must say that you were one of the people who persuaded me to get a baby and the poor fellow is seriously neglected! ;)

    1. Isn't it lovely! I just had to take photos, I wish I'd had my proper camera but of course it probably wouldn't have made much difference, what with it all being behind the window !
